Leyton Orient (H)

The first of three tough matches coming up starting with Orient.

They seem to have hit some form but hopefully lessons learnt against Shrewsbury should get us a win.

That's how you do it. Adapt to the match win the match We'd have stuck with the one formation the entire game under the willy waver

Did I mention Schuey loves a comeback win??

  • Agreed, and thank fuck it was Evatt that went and not him. The great thing about having Morley in there is that in games where they just sacrifice a player to take Sheehan out, like they did toda

100% they seem to be building something. The look lost on their own but very dangerous together and seem to have an “understanding”

Who'd have thought. Keep a settled strike force and goals will come. With that comes confidence for the whole team.

20,000+ actual attendees will become 21.000+

It's coming on gents.

Other things whilst I’m at it.

I reckon they thought we’d set up with a back 5 and wingbacks, so that we could get 2 up front. Their #47 was playing left of their front 3 and had zero interest in tracking back, which meant JDC (who I thought was brilliant all game and IMO is a far better full back than wingback) and Schon just kept doubling up on their full back. I know we didn’t have a shot on target but that reflected a poor final ball - we were getting in threatening positions down that side over and over and looked a matter of time before we’d make something of it.

They then play the keeper go down card because they need an urgent reshuffle and can’t wait until half time. Fair play to them, they stopped that threat (actually by putting Randy over there who is better defensively) and then we were far less threatening - not helped by Murphy having a very very off day and Tutu having one of his games where he looks like he’s playing half asleep, meaning our left side was awful in the first half.

Forrester was brilliant - proper proper defender with some massive blocks in the last 20 minutes.

Johnston not far behind - something closer to how we know he can play.

Southwood has a decent level of shithousery in him (seems to be a pre-requisite of all keepers nowadays).

Sheehan marked out of the game first half but a solid 6/7 out of 10.

I thought McAtee was pretty good in the first half, although he’s not a lone striker. Him and Collins together though really starts to show what he’s about.

SS once again proving he can change a game and react in game. So so refreshing to see. Someone else has already said it but to see us shift from 433 to 442 and then to 532 and the players looking like they understand what they’re doing in each is quality.

We’re going up.

Such a massive result, couldn't afford to lose with Wrexham and Birmingham next up.

I can't help but wonder what Evatt is thinking looking at how SS has won us these last few games. Willingness to adapt and change on the spot. Evatt just refused to face the blindingly obvious in these kinds of games, doing little but increasing the intensity and making like for like subs. As delighted as we all are with the new fella, Evatt would still have a job if he'd adapted his system during games like this.

Found it interesting today that 2 players he insisted on playing as LWB’s with limited success were both playing as part of the attacking 3 for their respective sides. Mainly on the right too

early days of course but Schon for us looks far more threatening and Williams looks like he’s making an impact for Orient

Agree with everything you said, but what happens Tuesday?

I love Tommo.

He’s not ahead Sheehan and Morley.

What a player to bring on in a situation like that. 👏

The way he threw himself into that challenge to head the ball, knowing he was getting clattered,  superb stuff 👏

Got us the free kick and that pretty much ended it.

Nice idea but if it's a keeper there is absolutely no chance of that.

There is a problem with the keeper leaving the pitch, which is why it’s always been the exception when they’re “injured”.

However, given the scale of tactical injuries, the problem needs to be addressed … and there is a solution: a defender must leave the pitch and rejoin at the halfway line. Time for the FA and EFL to start thinking creatively.

Sheehan (who did a great captains job today) and Morley are first names on team team sheet if fit.

Special shout out for Schon. Looked good on the right today, then slotted in on the left at the end to see the game out.

I was undecided on Schon today, I'd be interested to hear what others thought (I know you're biased 😀).

Great industry, beat his man a few times and showed good control and neat footwork.  Then as frustrating as hell when it came to executing simple passes, overhit or just misdirected, making wrong decisions.  Weak in a lot of challenges although as said earlier the ref seemed to have it in for him, but little seemed to come off for him one way or another.  For once I thought JDC was more effective today, a bright performance from him.

Amusing to think how recently some were saying a manager could change nothing - now 3 comeback wins in a row and we wouldn't have won 1 with Ian in charge

I understand that instinct but in reality it just means the leagues would be joining in the cat & mouse. Like in a work situation it's best met head on with an absolute "we know what you're doing, it fckg stops or you'll be getting booked & if need be sent off".

I take your point, but Gary Speed surely?

Petrov was also nailed on despite putting them all in the same spot.

I'll be honest I can't even remember Petrov taking pens!

I'm not putting Morley above Speedo obviously, but just in terms of taking pens I'd have Morley up there with any ex-BW player including Speed, I'd have equal confidence in both.

Is that Morley's first penalty at home?  He seems to have scored a lot away, can't remember any here.

For me felt like we did nothing of note  but they threatened

Was looking at the stats at half time

It was 60% us

But we had one shot not on target

They had seven with two on

Second half all us and they were no where to be seen

It didn't feel like that to me!  They hit the angle of post and bar at 0-1, their right winger was a big threat last half hour, they had that shot from about 10 yards that flew past the post and we generally had to defend well throughout, especially with the Williams long throws.

What contrast between their throw in's and our's! 90% of our's ended up with Murphy throwing it 20 yards backwards (did he ever even look forwards from a throw?) and it ended up with Southwood, and 90% of their's ended up with us having to defend a ball into our box.  Williams did more dangerous throws today than in his entire time here.  Did absolutely nothing else mind, no threat at all.

I’ve just checked & now my week is looking dull as fck 😂

I’ve signed up for a game of 5s

Ok On the time wasting, there was a break in play. All their players went over to the manager except the 47.

Then they made a sub, the 47 was stood Near East stand, and surprise surprise the 47 went off. What happened to leaving pitch at nearest point ?

What about the lad that went down in the centre circle, even when he was coming off (#6? - mullet twat) and the ref let the physio come on to push his legs a few times before then just walking off together and being subbed!?

Why the fuck is a physio allowed to come on to work on a player that is being subbed? The 4th official knew it was happening too because he was stood there with the board and the sub next to him.

What was Southwood pathetic dive when he was beaten all ends up by Williams cross which hit the post

Aye the logical thing would be if you have been treated on the pitch the sub can only come on after the same 30 secs a player has to stay off the pitch after treatment.

Did anyone think Morley was missing that pen??

Never in a bazillion years, for me

He's our best at them and should have been taking them even when Dion was here imo.

Pens aside, his overall game has come on so much from that loan at Wycombe. He looks incredibly fit now - enough to play in a midfield 2 with Sheehan and not get outdone. Fair play to him as I was certain he was on his way out.

They're definitely going to introduce a rule next season about these fake goalkeeper injuries and in game team meetings. Every cunts taking the piss with it.
