Leyton Orient (H)

The first of three tough matches coming up starting with Orient.

They seem to have hit some form but hopefully lessons learnt against Shrewsbury should get us a win.

That's how you do it. Adapt to the match win the match We'd have stuck with the one formation the entire game under the willy waver

Did I mention Schuey loves a comeback win??

  • Agreed, and thank fuck it was Evatt that went and not him. The great thing about having Morley in there is that in games where they just sacrifice a player to take Sheehan out, like they did toda

Murphy was poor at LB but did much better when he moved into the back 4.

He played LB in a back 4 all game didn't he? We only went 5 at the back after he went off.

Left Behind?

Top day out from start to finish. My work sponsors one of the players so got to go collect a signed framed shirt before the game, go down the tunnel etc.

Thought we started well if not still a little ponderous. A lot of pissing about at the back side to side. Not sure if it was the plan all along or whether Collins wasn’t 100% fit but thought we struggled with only one up top as we didn’t really have the out ball. When it was played long it just gave away possession time and again. We just don’t have that type of forward in the squad. What I will say though is I’d happily take Mcatee’s contribution yesterday if it resulted in more goals for him. Hopefully he’s finally starting to come good now so fair play to him.

I think young Murphy looks dodgy at left back, he gives the ball away a lot, is often out of position and is too easily beaten for me.

I think JDC deserves a mention, I was one of the first to criticise him near the end of Evatts tenure. Every pass backwards. He’s looking forwards now and getting into positive positions which is great.

Forrester has been excellent since Huddersfield.

Maybe the issue was Rico all along? We looks miles more solid since he’s been gone.

Schon full of industry and tutu a little quiet for me. Can’t decide if he’s an impact sub or a nailed on starter. When he’s on it he’s unstoppable.

Morley deserves a mention, been excellent since his return and Sheehan looks the balls also.

Matete was terrible yesterday, just not in the game and a couple half hearted attempts at 50-50’s.

only change I’d make would be Matete for Collins with either him in behind mcatee roaming or up top alongside him.

Overall massive result, now let’s go put these sheep shagging tw@ts in their place next week. THE WHITES ARE BACK - SSSWA

I'm not getting the criticism of any player out there yesterday.  Collectively, I thought we were excellent and showed a spirit that at times under Evatt, I wasn't sure was there. Several contenders for MotM too.

Feckin love Saturday nights and Sunday mornings after we've won.

That’s what I thought. Clearly looked like 4-4-2 for majority of 2nd half until the last subs when we went to a 5 (When Murphy went off)

Iles talking about Murphy playing LCB this morning, but didn’t see it myself.

I thought Murphy looked a weak link in both of the last 2 first halves (Shrewsbury and yesterday). But to his credit looked better in both 2nd halves.

If we were to stick to 4 at the back and change personnel at LB, not sure where SS would go. Schon, Tutu, Cogley, Jones, Johnston?

Personally wouldn’t want Tutu or Schon there, would probably plump for Cogley, shifting Jones to RB

It's pretty clear, & I doubt anyone hadn't noticed it, that Evatt & Morley had a fall out & Evatt wasn't going to use him.

There’s been a few like that over the years.

Some evidence of that in Morley’s (extended) interview on “the last word” podcast.

Jack Dearden asked him what’s different under the new manager. There was a big pause a few chuckles and Morley says can I skip that question.

He then diplomatically talks about a different philosophy, getting the ball forward and players responding positively.

Good to see someone mentioning JDC. I thought he was excellent yesterday too!

Team effort yesterday that includes manager and coaches so refreshing to see  manager and his coaches seeing what’s happening on the pitch and responding .

Murphy didn't look good defending one on one against that winger second half. He turned his back a couple of times when getting run at which wasn't great. He's tall and it does cut out the diagonal ball a bit because teams don't try it as much as they would with a smaller player, so that's a positive.

He's young and inexperienced but he deffo needs be better than that defensively for the rest of the season.

Petrov actually has the best career record of any of them looking at it on transfermarkt. 17-1 (5 from 5 with us). All side footed to his left hand corner I'd imagine. Speed was 13-2 (7 from 7 for us). Morley is 7-1 (5 from 5 with us). And that was his first at home.

I'd feel pretty secure with any of them stepping up if my life depending on it.

Good info 👍 and as @Stig says, add Holdsworth to the list too.

I thought Kevin Davies was always reliable from the spot

I actually did not feel remotely confident in Davies funnily enough.

Remarkably ALF never missed for us, despite hitting every single one straight down the middle.

Think he only took 3 or 4 for us. Missed one and never took another.

The only player I’ve ever seen float it into the top corner. Very strange technique

He was up against two decent wingers, the lad that started and the sub they brought on. Think he did ok and just tired a bit in the second half.

He’s been back to his best since the new regime has come in, great to see

He's definitely improved, I'm sure some of it is down to the general effect of SS but playing in one position generally (RB) rather than trying to cover two positions (RB and RW) under IE makes him look more focused and in control somehow.  Who'd have thought.

Holdsworth was 12 from 12 with us. Just seemed inevitable he'd score every time the ball was directly in front of goal... And stationary

Iles has misread the game there - Murphy was left back all game and he went off as we switched to a 532 at the end.

I do have some sympathy because he's writing up match reports, live blogging and writing twitter updates as well as having to watch the game. I couldn't do it and know what was going on.

Or at half time

Indeed.

He is clearly still learning about the players, but I can see him looking for someone to bring more balance to the team, so we aren't having to change and come from behind too often.
