Certainly in the first half anyway. Seemed a bit overcomplicated to my feeble tactical brain but in SS we trust. Yeah, that's how I saw it

It's the first time I've ever seen the "inverted" player in a back 5. Also weird that it was a midfielder going back into defence rather than a defender to midfield. I don't think it's a tactical revolution that will catch on

We were losing to Shrewsbury, Brum, Orient, Crawley but we were better than them on the day, Stockport were winning that game today with or without us taking the lead. You seem to have a very negative view on every aspect of the game today. 2 questions 1 Should it have been a penalty of the challenge on Collins early on 2 Given the lad had already been booked should he have gone for the block on McAtee ? Both in the first half. I agree Stockport looked decent today playing a system they are comfortable with but you have to admit if the 2 decisions above go our way it is a totally different game. The ref was incredibly weak on just basics like where throw ins were taken from and the drop ball he gave them when closest they came to having the ball was Sheehan being kicked in the head.

Not aimed at me, but happy to answer yes and yes. The pen would have been a softish one, but the defender puts both hands on him. It was more of a pen than against us on Tuesday! I can’t get my head around how it wasn’t a red card. Same with Birmingham. Refs are happy to dish out yellows for fun, but bottle giving reds against the “big” teams. We do need to change the storyline on going behind though. By my reckoning we’ve scored first only once in the last 10 games.
March 16, 20251 yr Not a pen for me. Knoyle should of gone all day long. Everyone knew he was coming off at HT. Ref wasn’t having any of Collins yesterday. The ‘foul’ late on for the shove was nailed on.

The ‘foul’ late on for the shove was nailed on. He’s put the ball past him and the defender just blocks him, it’s obstruction and a foul. Soft, probably in the fact that it’s not a tackle thats swiped his legs, but it’s as much of, if not more of a foul than the one against Murphy at Bristol City. As you say though, the ref was having none of Collins all day. He does throw himself to the floor dramatically, which doesn’t help, but I reckon that ref just has something against him. He gave plenty of other soft fouls, so it wasn’t like he was letting everything go. The second yellow thing is becoming a joke. Holding onto a player when they’ve gone past you is the most blatant yellow card you’ll get, and if a player isn’t on a yellow then 95% of the time they get a yellow and they don’t even argue it because they just accept that it’s an obvious ‘professional foul’. The rule changes when it’s for a second yellow though and they shit out of it and become far more lenient - it’s a joke and proper cowardly. I also don’t think it helped that it was the first half - there seems to be a reluctance to make big calls earlier on in the game, like the 70th minute is more acceptable to send a player off than the 35th. I hadn’t realised it was that ref until someone said it earlier. I don’t buy into conspiracy theories of refs being against us etc. (they are just generally shit in this league) but I’d not argue that that twat genuinely does have something against us. March 16, 20251 yr Yesterday was just so frustrating, trying to keep positive as Schumacher is and obviously he needs time. But yesterday just opened up some old wounds left behind from the previous regime. Us Wanderers fans really are being asked to be patient, with the amount of times our fellow local rivals beat us and mock us. Been that way for far too long. Stockport did it to us 3 years ago when they were 2 leagues below us. And they're still doing it today, above us in the league, and could be in the Championship whilst we're still stuck in League 1. It's all a bit depressing. But hopefully under Schuey we've got a manager who will get us right and these next 2 games are also a massive opportunity to respond.
March 16, 20251 yr A piss weak ref who didn't want to make big decisions early in a big game, had his hand forced by Knoyle's wild early foul then bottled it on the second yellow. He gave Camps a yellow in second half for a nothing foul by comparison. Collins doesn't help himself but ref wasn't having him from minute 1. Standards in EFL are getting worse not better and there seems to be a recent pattern of them having a reset at half time and reffing the second half different to the first Edited March 16, 20251 yr by ianofcleveleys

Its about having a top manager, who can organise a team to play like that, as well as good recruitment. Its hard to come by, when have we had a manager at that level in fairly recent times? (I'm excluding SS for now). You can tell a team managed by an organised, quality manager easily, and Stockport had it in spades today. Challinors interview afterwards was impressive, as was ss’s.

I think it's clutching at straws to hold on to refereeing decisions. Both could've gone our way but neither were the most egregious mistakes you'll ever see. And I'd argue we shouldn't need those decisions to see us past Stockport County. Or to at least perform far better than we did. It was another performance in line with a side that's won 2 out of 11 against the six teams above us, with 1 goal in the 9 games we didn't win. That's a bigger concern than pinning it on referees.

I could not see it at the time as down other end but watching the video Collins knocks it past him, is going round him and the guy bundles him over, no contact on the ball. The ref bottles it.

I personally think it’s soft. No time for this falling over stuff. I can see how it can be interpreted as a pen but if we give for that then we will see loads more. I didn’t think Bristol rovers was a pen last week either

Now I can get he might miss something but then the second booking is not something he missed something he just did not give. I am not sure why you think it is wrong to expect those decisions to beat Stockport County, who for the level a good well managed team. You need key moments to go your favour. Would we have won if they did ? Who knows, but it certainly would have helped. My initial point was that although we did not play well by any means or County did not let us play well we were well in the game and key decisions wrongly went against us.

I am arguing for consistency. The one yesterday the player knows what he is doing the one midweek Murphy could at least claim the guy cam from behind into a loose ball , Collins dribbles into the area, beats a man who then knocks him over.
March 16, 20251 yr Ref aside, Stockport had some big chances and Baxter was superb and kept the score down. overall they deserved to win and did all the things we don’t like - in you face, aggressive, close quick, niggly. This shows for me that when it comes to this big games, we don’t necessarily have the players for it. We need some shit houses to get us out of this league rather than all nice players. I am sure Schumacher has already seen who he thinks does but it (Dempsey and santos aside) but it was too late for this season for him to start bringing in and shipping out players. Evatt built a nice to watch on the eye team, but that doesn’t get you out of this league. (Apart from backways and sideways) be certainly interesting to see what happens in the next 2 games where we will see more of the same. Edited March 16, 20251 yr by marple whites
March 16, 20251 yr Next 2 games will decide our season away at local rivals they will be up for it our lot well that’s the million dollar question .
March 16, 20251 yr Yep fuck the next 2 and with other results may just leave us too much to make back up. Can’t say I’m expecting much unfortunately, you just know what’s coming. We needed this mini break 2 games ago. Just hope Dempsey and an interested Santos can give us a much needed boost to see us into the playoffs back in form.

Cannot believe we are going to play Wigan & Blackpool back to back again at a pivotal time of the season, if we get less than 4 points think season is done…. Both games going to be intense and physical, can’t say I’m confident of winning either game… the run in doesn’t look easy and all signs point to another season in league 1 and that isn’t something I’m looking forward to. I’d like to go up of course I would but this team struggles in L1 so imagine them in the Championship. With the money we’ve spent and the contract length signings like Collins, Randall, Lolos, McAtee and Schon have got we’re stuck with them because I doubt there’ll be a queue to take them off our hands. At least another year in L1 with a few new signings with a bit more bite in them would be preferable to me. I trust Schu to get it right so I’m happy if we do stay down for now.
