Worn my bwfc tie today in work.

All the wigan supporting kids quoting "took you ten years"

That and apparently the ref had been paid by us, and our players are all dirty.

Ian Marshall.

My goodness I was wrong about him back in the day.

He must have been something in his peak. He just made space around himself & no-one was getting that high ball but him.

Aye.

OK some may not see them as a traditional local rival, but the games must be treated as such.

If only one set of players is up for it, then it's going to be very difficult.

Last night we matched them. Sorted.

Aye it's definitely all relative

Since they got in the PL we've played them 31 times in 3 leagues which I expect is miles more than any other local team

And we sell out every time

We love beating them and they love beating us

I hate them loving beating us and I expect vice versa

They're exactly what we need in our footballing lives

While I agree with pretty much all of that, I actually quite like that we have a proper "derby" now. All the other local teams all have their main rival (man U/man c, PNE/Blackpool, Blackburn/Burnley) so our rivalry is secondary.

Yes it may fade if we can get out of the same division as Wigan for a prolonged period, but the passion is clearly there now to make it a proper derby. We need to embrace it and keep doing everything we can to beat them.

I get what you mean but I think we should always put in the necessary passion and focus to this game without them having to be our "arch" rival to make it happen. It should never have been any different.

To be honest it's long been a fault at this club and it was evident in the 80s too. Wigan and Bury haunted us plenty - and largely because we didn't match their intensity on the day. That's just about being slack and unaware. It took Phil Parkinson and his insider knowledge at Bury to get us a win at Gigg Lane after no victory there since Henry VIII was swapping wives every year!

Extended highlights now available on Sky football channel

Missed most of the first half as my old dog had a big "fit" 10 mins before kick off and I was snuggled up with him on his bean bag while he got over it. He's as right as rain today.

Not good TV... the shirts were too similar

A fit?

Not great.

I remember my neighbour ringing us in the early hours: scared shitless as his dog was fitting and he needed to get her to the emergency vets.

By the time they got there, she'd been convulsing for over an hour.

Had to put her down, as even if they'd stopped it, she would have suffered brain damage.

Fucking awful, especially as she wasn't ill and had never had one before.

Don't know if this has been mentioned. But 2 things I noticed from all the angles of the goal the club put up on SM today. When everyone charged to celebrate at our end, Wigan could have quiet rightly kicked off and bombed up the pitch. But I think McAtee went to celebrated with the bench and the coaches told him to go back in to the Wigan half because Wigan had already got the ball on the center spot. But it didn't matter because on his way to join the team at our end Sheehan ran past the center spot and booted the ball 60 yards. Shithousary at its finest.

The weirdest thing in life is being older than Ian Marshall when he played for us.

I think he's an old cunt but he's still about 7 years younger than me. If ya get me drift.

only if the ref blows the whistle

and no ref is doing that when players are celebrating without at least having a word

and even then he'd book everyone celebrating before allowing a restart

He stumbled as we walked out of the door so he can have quick piss and he rolled onto his back and his legs were going ten to a dozen... got him onto his side and the legs were still going like mad and he started foaming at the mouth, missus brought a blanket and we managed to roll him onto it and carried him back into the house. All took less than two minutes.

I settled down with him on his beanbag and he started coming around but his eyes were empty... by half time he had relocated to the settee and he had his supper later and a little walk. Let him sleep on our bed and thinking he had had a stroke and I told the missus that we'll work with what we're left with in the morning.... bugger woke up quarter of an hour before the alarm demanding his breakfast.

Vet checked him over today and including his arthritis he was okay for his age... she does suspect a neurological thing going on where signals are not getting through between his brain and hind legs.

Bloody dogs... you think they are about to die and the next day they're chasing their bloody ball 🙂

Are you sure? It's not up to the ref to make sure everyone is in position. As long as everyone is in the right half then it's fair game. I'm sure I've seen it happen somewhere.
