Tombwfc Posted April 2, 2025 Posted April 2, 2025 A bit soft to be getting annoyed at Aimson because he's playing his part in a local derby. I'm sure GJ didn't 'hate' Wigan when he was playing for them either and I doubt he will when he leaves us. All part of the fun of a derby. Same with MC Chris Finch at the start. And if we're being honest, none of it compares to the pretty vile shit the fans shout at each others players. Quote

Certainly not annoyed with Aimson - more that it’s surprised me that he had it in him after looking pretty docile at our place Quote

Ani Posted April 2, 2025 Author Posted April 2, 2025 Tutu got one of theirs booked , should have been two after the group tackle on him early. The Wigan hater then got the 11 booked and they were rattled. We than stopped playing the ball the left for some reason. Good to see JDC getting some credit at last, also Captain Legohead put a shift in last night, the corner came from him chasing a lost ball into the corner in the 92 nd minute. Collins is due a big game soon. Quote
Zico Posted April 2, 2025 Posted April 2, 2025 whilst it wasn't great we had more of the ball and more of the chance and won but still too much pissing around at the back and not getting it up quick enough, sideways and backwards I'm not a "gerrin int mixer" type, but they aren't looking for options half the time, or the players aren't showing, and then someone does a quick pass or flick to no one I just think right now, until SS gets a summer in to stamp his authority, if we play 3 at the back, that's the play they revert to by default Quote
deeane Koontz Posted April 2, 2025 Posted April 2, 2025 That little fanny Mcmanaman was just trying to do people at the end. Letting them get to the ball first so he could go through them. Quote

Unfortunately they are the only we have to play up there. Hopefully they get it together soon and we will smash every team because they are both good enough Quote
paulhanley Posted April 2, 2025 Posted April 2, 2025 (edited) "The derby" "Your cup final" It's all Wigan aspiring to be in an arch-rivalry with us a la Pompey/Southampton, Blackburn/Burnley, PNE/Blackpool, Cardiff/Swansea. They ought to be satisfied that after 40 years in the football league they have dragged themselves in to similar territory to the other Lancashire town sides including the mob we played on Saturday. They won't stand out from the Blackburn/PNE/Burnley group in the fullness of time. Wild celebrations last night because these behaved in a very classless way towards us when we nearly went out of business and have lorded it over us results wise for 10 years to the point of it getting ridiculous. When we go up (whenever that may be) and they are eeking out an existence in League 1 at best (as per their true status), much of pointed nature of recent events will fade on our side. How many of us think about Tranmere when we aren't in the same division? For an arch rivalry you need permanent feeling on both sides. Local rivals worthy of celebrating heavily when we beat them, especially after a long drought. Yes Very local rivals geographically. Yes. Arch-rivals. Not for me. I'd have been pretty much as chuffed with a win at the seaside shithole on Saturday. Edited April 2, 2025 by paulhanley Quote

Hard to be a no 10/roamer when he's only got McAtee bowling about him. He's isolated so much. Quote

He's inherited an expensive, overpriced hotch potch of a squad with too many in it that need a certain type we haven't got around them to help them deliver. They've all been brought in to do things a certain way. It might not be that easy for him to make us what we're currently not in the Summer (if we don't go up of course) as he'll be stuck with a good few who've underachieved, because of their contracts, unless we can somehow tempt somebody to part with cash for them. All the other local teams all have their main rival (man U/man c, PNE/Blackpool, Blackburn/Burnley) so our rivalry is secondary. Yes it may fade if we can get out of the same division as Wigan for a prolonged period, but the passion is clearly there now to make it a proper derby. We need to embrace it and keep doing everything we can to beat them. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted April 2, 2025 Posted April 2, 2025 Aye. OK some may not see them as a traditional local rival, but the games must be treated as such. If only one set of players is up for it, then it's going to be very difficult. Last night we matched them. Sorted. Quote
gonzo Posted April 2, 2025 Posted April 2, 2025 (edited) Ask anyone under 40 who our rivals are they'll categorically reply Wigan. Blackpool probably 2nd. Edited April 2, 2025 by gonzo Quote

Agree with that - I like having it as a derby and as much as the older generation probably still think of them as that non-league outfit, we’ve basically been in and around the same leagues for 20 years now. I’m 34 and I’m only just old enough to remember them moving up the leagues and not really being a rival. Most of our fans under 30 will have always just known them as being there and being a local derby. One thing that goes against it as a derby is just how poor their home support is. Ultimately it’s up to them to sort, and clearly proves that we’re the bigger club, but it cheapens the derby a bit when you look out last night and see the home end probably less than half full - I don’t think they’ll have topped 7k home fans there last night. Game was awful, they were horrendous but we really tried our best to out-shit them for a lot of it, terrible football which was mainly due to McAtee being no lone striker - as @Casino says, if Etete isn’t coming on in that game then it’s not a great advertisement for his ability. But, who gives a fuck when a 92nd minute winner goes in? Suddenly turns into the best game ever, biggest 3 points of the season, the players are all heroes, they’re serenaded off the pitch from 4,500 fans and now feel on top of the world. We’re in the play offs, have 2 winnable home games, our ‘blip’ can be well and truly forgotten by this time next week and there’s a completely different feel to it, all due to Forino doing his best Jermain Defoe impression in the last minute. We’re going up (just don’t play McAtee up top on his own again!). Think we tried to play football but the pitch looked a mess, second half was better and fair play to Thomo for getting us going and everyone seemed to step it up . What memories at the end, watching it back just now felt quite emotional. Quote
