When I’m up in Newcastle with work I always stay at the same hotel. Go for a swim early morning and sit in the steam room after. I’ve got to know some locals quite well who are always there

Yes. GAY. Sat half naked chatting to other men. I’m comfortable with it

They loved travelling to Burnden back in the day. Couple of them are serious 70s hoolies who said it was one of the worst aways for them. Others are boozers who kept a low profile and made good mates with Bolton fans and named The Griffin and The Ancient Shepherd as where they’d go post match to meet up with their Bolton ‘mates’

I listened to all of that whilst having a bath last night, water was a bit cowd by the end .

Some very interesting comments and a couple of their highest ever attendances have been against us and the blokes in the podcast seemed to regard us as equally as important as other clubs of a higher standing.

Pleased they spoke at length about 76.

Got me thinking,,, if 6-7 honest older geezers off this site had to discuss memories of great games or massive victories or embarrassing defeats or other things that stood out at the time, whilst also being complementary to the other club,, Who would the other club be????

I'll suggest a couple

Everton

Sunderland

Blackburn Rovers?????

There's stand out games  like promotion at Blackburn & Frankie Worthy at the theatre of shite but I fall at the hurdle of being complementary in any way to either of those clubs. Reading don't register !!

Everton maybe, they're not Liverpool & we had the big semi finals against them & Geordies are mostly alright & we had the cup saga with them.

I least dislike Sunderland & Millwall but we've not had many memorable games against them.

Excellent watch especially the first guy talking about Sir Nat. Thanks for sharing.

Yeh, that was great. Hardly ever sit through something like that, but the old cocks involved knew their onions and were respectful.

I'm not that old but I hold a general respect for Oldham.

Some tasty games with them. They were always out in force for us and would still be now. They proper respect us too.

Good call for Oldham, the Roger Palmer era we seemed to play them a lot, our rise seemed to coincide with their demise and i don't suppose our yoof these days has any idea.

For some reason i went to Boundary park one easter, might have been good Friday, it was the season that City had been relegated but only needed a point at Oldham to go straight back up, City had billions there and really took the piss that day, on the pitch before, during and after all over the place and i felt a bit sorry for Oldham.

One Oldham v Bolton game, City fans turned up at h/t (maybe their game was off ?? ) , walked round the pitch all cocky past the open end full of Bolton fans & up to the Chaddy End. They almost certainly didn't realise that Bolton's mob were on the Chaddy End & when they reached it, Bolton charged at them & they left very quickly & weren't seen again 😊.

That in 1994ish?

Sure we lost 3-2 and that Tranmere/Bradford fucker scored 2. Stuart Mccarthy.

Remember it going off royal in opposite end and in my innocent youth thought it was Oldham fans falling out with eachother.

Ill go for Spurs . Never had a problem with them and I hate Arsenal as well . Had some brilliant wins against them and got some absolute thumpings too .

The Old Gold wankers Wolves......Kenny Hibbitt in the 70s, Steve Bull in the 80s, SJM in the 90s, the play off semi final, Elmander......isn't it? Wasn't it? Marvellous!!

Grudging respect on and off the pitch and to be fair had a few good drinks down there due to Fernys connections.

See I'm the opposite , everything about Arsenal oozes class & sofistication, first time i went to Highbury they never had records or music playing, a brass band would play near the clock end and at half time a copper got up and sang in uniform in an operatic style whilst north London casuals milled amongst you in Pringles and dear stalker hats, this was circa 79/80, blew my fookin mind, they were light years ahead.

It was the explosion of the "match lad" look and the era of the football casual that really got me hooked, I'd always followed BWFC but i longed for us to have a scene, unfortunately by the time we caught on our regular support was so low that you knew most of them by sight if not to speak to.

I dont go back as far as you . So Im thinking of mid 90's onwards starting with the 7-1 cup win against Spurs , the Okocha perfect 10 , Muamba and many others .

At the same time , mid 90s we started a bizarre rivalry with Arsenal for 15 years . It was the mad entitlement of the manager and fans , exacerbated by the MSM and that twat Alan Davies that really pissed me off .

Spurs were so piss poor for a massive club for years, i only thought yesterday when Kyle walker came on at turf moor (thought he had gone somewhere like Watford,) that he was playing in the Fabrice Muamba game.

How old is he.

No, the time City fans turned up was much earlier, late 70's or early 80's, when Bolton used to overwhelm Oldham & the Chaddy End was ours.

Ended up sat with some Wolves who knew Ferny the other season. Older fella with white hair and beard. He'd been to every Wolves game home and away for 40 odd years bar one when he daughter was born. (Shitfan :) )

Used to meet up with Ferny in the Lamb before Any Wolves game up north.

Without being outstanding, hes had a great career really.

Hadn't won a thing other than permission with QPR until he joined City at 27!

Mmm, think you missed our early scene when Bolton were proper on the skinhead/smoothie scene before any of the other Lancashire sides.

In the days of taking over other ends, Bolton skins were the first to take over the Darwen end, Blackburn and all of the greasers/rockers that had never been moved before.

Evolved into Harringtons, sta-prest etc, we always had a decently dressed set of lads.
