Leyton Orient (H)

Really is a big game this.

Heading to the abyss of the season this is where we really do need to make a statement and start kicking on.

Saw McAtee starting, thought fine, give him the benefit of the doubt and all that.   Two minutes in, ball played up to him, he just runs looking at the defender and the ball hits him on the bac

Must win this. Everyone playing each other around us as well.

Training should have been nothing but attack focused the past few days.

Correct. Rather than possession focused , get the ball up, and get a shot in. Nobody’s ever been razzed off for having a shot. Well not many, not seriously apart from Ali Crawford.

After wearing other things than my usual match day attire for the last few home games where we've been rubbish I'm switching back to lucky wanders boxers and socks so we should win.

It's the only logical reason we've been shit recently.

If the opposition have a corner and just as it’s crossed into the box and I shout OUT the opposition as never ever scored . unfortunately I can only limit myself to one per game but I must of saved us 100s of goals over the years by doing this

Surely more skillful players have the ability to move themselves and the ball more accurately. Doing so that bit quicker, allows them a touch more time, and prevents opposing athletes from getting into their defensive positions, reducing space and doubling up when necessary.

If we lack one or two who can score from open play, and also a set piece threat, then maybe they're not as skillful as we think.

Evatt ball was constructed around "best players in the league" but became slow, dreary and without a backbone.

I get the point you're making, but we're third division, and even Pep ball in the first has been found out to a degree.

I think it becomes slow, panicky and dreary when the team loses confidence. There were games under Evatt ball when we would absolutely dominate against top sides, scoring great goals, then during difficult periods slowly labouring against poor ones with the players looking like heads had gone. We've seen the same to a lesser extent with SS (Mansfield really affected us).

I agree that asking league one standard players to play that patient controlling style when confidence is low, and in front of 20,000 expectant fans is a recipe for disaster. It's also more difficult to do away from home when the opp are more likely to be riled up by their fans and pounce on any errors more effectively.

But I really hope we stick with it and just sort the striker situation out which would hopefully bring that confidence back, rather than trying to change too much. Winning games and getting promoted that way, whilst harder, would be much more fulfilling

McAtees chance to shine  tomorrow

Turned the game against them last season, we were going nowhere a goal down until his good finish (nice assist from Collins).  Also the last time we got a penalty if I'm not mistaken.  I'll settle for either of those happening again tomorrow.

In the league, yes that’s correct 👍🏻

I agree they were impressive in the first half and scored a great goal (not unlike the Dalby equaliser at Huddersfield) but not sure where you get 4-0 H-T?  They had a couple of half chances and that game stands out because it was the one TSL made a save in (routine, near post shot).  The best save was by the Lincoln keeper from Randall from inside the 6 yard box after 3 consecutive shots, keeper was celebrating like he'd scored.  On the balance of play we should have won that game but were grateful for a point in the end.

They really took the game to us in that first half. No idea what the xg was or anything like that but my memory of that half was of us being penned into our box repeatedly with set piece after set piece being launched resulting in scrambles, someone nearly getting their head on it etc if not a direct shot. That's the only home game this season where I've felt like we were going to concede repeatedly. Even last minute of the first half they got a free kick in their half and everyone went forward for the goalie to launch another set piece in.

I came out of that half thinking we were incredibly lucky to just be 1 nil down.

2 clean sheets on the bounce. Rebuilding from back to front. Defence the least of our worries right now!

First time in a while where I've had zero excitement or motivation to go to the match.

Aye these are the days where it's pretty difficult to drag yourself up there.

Hopefully all be worth it when McAtee bangs his hatty in.

can feel it coming, just needs his chance.

Probably feels like he's won the lottery having Forss out and Randall gone, getting him up in the pecking order.

I really hope he gives McAtee a run today. It feels like he is keen and eager and might just provide the spark we need. I would give Burstow a little rest. He is badly out of goalscoring form but he runs himself to a standstill and probably deserves a little spell of rest.

McAtee will start today and absolutely terrorise Orient.

Even in the darkest days in the 80s we never seemed this toothless in attack.

Hmmm , Remind you of anyone???🤔

Going back then we had some shite but we seemed to have always a decent forward or two  Caldwell, Oghani, Reeves and Philliskirk all better than we currently have and a little later Mcginlay and Walker who are streets ahead of what are around now

Was thinking of doing the exact same ...Now worried we may cancel each other out .

Steve Elliott & Ian stevens ?

Not the game to fuck around with our new formation . Highest scorers and highest conceders .

Stick with the back 5 that has kept 2 clean sheets on the bounce and play 2 up top .

Whats the saying ? Defences win leagues , attacks win cups ?

If we've to grind out a few wins like that, while we hopefully get in a bit more goal power, so be it

Great shout. I reckon Scary Spice would be a menace for opposing defenders, plus she definitely knows her way around a box or two.
