Everton (H)

Anyone bothering?

I've just been to T/O for a ticket.

Only opening ESL and NSL. ESL sold out and only 2 blocks in the corner of NSL still had seats at lunchtime.

Against Breda next week, only opening WSL because there's other events going on around East Stand.

Albies 5th birthday today and going to the match with his Dad whilst I’m at work. If you see him please say happy birthday and give him a high 5, he will be buzzing!

  • I just Flatley deny this

  • opinions eh. Sheehan's been decent and our wingers have looked lively so far - even if it's not come off a couple of times for the French lad. I reckon you'd 'identified the issues' before kick off if

I'll revise that ... Sheehan good, Gale looked lively and probably our main threat - plus nicked the ball back a few times. French lad had a promising start, but nowt came off for him after that.

Stephenson looks defensively solid, can't remember last time I could say that about our RB, as did the new lad at LB.

Decent enough run out.

Agree with all that apart from the comment on having a solid RB might do a dissservice to Christie. He often stepped in last season and looked solid enough. I think Stephenson looks good in a L1 type of way, very competitive and fearless, looks a little bit lacking in athleticisim for the championship and in comparison to Tutu for eg.

And surely he's the lovechild of Michael Johansson and Lloyd Isgrove, very similar in appearance and physique.

Fair play. I was ready for a 0-3 tbh.

Erhahon & Toal to return, a probable 3 or 4 more to add for target "keep well away from 20th".

As well as we played, within the confines of a friendly, I don't think EFC had in them to score 3 against Chorley today. They were awful considering their status, the only time they looked half decent was that move at the end of the 1st half when they opened us up and a good save from Bonham.

I quite like it when pre season games aren't "brilliant" as I think it builds too much early confidence.

Build gradually. Be reet.

Felt that we looked very comfortable and solid today.

But also very obvious that we are really lacking up top and out wide.

Obviously got the Spanish lad in and Dong will get better. Maybe 2 more wingers and 2 strikers will just about do it.

Think SS said he's expecting another 5 incoming.

Everton were proper shit.

We need attackers and gooduns too.

Stevenson and Davies impressed me the most out of our new lads.

Bonham & Sheehan both had decent games imo.

Everton is a bit of a test run of what we can expect from the top end of the Championship. Defensively we contained them really well, but we were never really a threat going forward, like SS said we need re-enforcement up top, wingers and strikers incoming.

I really wouldn't be drawing too much from pre-season matches, good or bad

Today was nothing like a league match

I’ve liked that comment because I agree.

But I also think it’s fair game to talk about who impressed, who didn’t and how the game played out, without it having any bearing on what happens against Preston.

I thought Sheehan stood out as commanding the midfield.

Generally our play was very good and we looked very good in possession.

Liked Davies and Forino as a CB partnership.

All in all a good afternoon out watching a friendly

Davies looks very reliable , Rodrigues will be a real asset in the Championship

Stevenson & our new LB decent. Need some improvement in the wide areas

Thought McAtee did well when he came on.

There is definitely a future for Inwood , just needs a bit of bulking up his distribution was excellent. Of the younger group think he’s the nearest to being included in the squad maybe another loan to L1/L2 for a season.

Its also valid to see the style of new signings. If we had a friendly in November it would be literally pointless. In July we find out how players like to play. Davies comfortable taking the ball and controlling it and making simple passes with either foot. Doesn't strike me as the type of defender that's going to attempt to slice someone in two like GJ, and he also doesn't attempt the worldy 35 yard crossfield ball we've become used to from GJ (or Santos). Dong got good close control and quite nippy, then again so did Gale today!

I didn't know who half our players were by the end but they all looked comfortable on the ball and weren't asked many questions defensively, although Bonham did make 3 decent stops and if he'd been a new signing we'd be saying he looks a good 'un.

As usual. He's looked good every time he's come on in the last year, makes things happen.

Wasn't helped by the lack of stadium and on screen announcements. The queues to get in were also very long with only half the relevant turnstiles open in NSL which for a 10600 crowd was poor planning. Off field the club need to up its game for the Championship as well.

I agree that McAtee always looks good when he comes on but sadly that’s all he does, look good.

He might be but that's a strange comment based on today's game. If anyone ran the first half, he did. I don't remember strength coming into play once, he was easily the most comfortable in possession on the pitch.

I have missed the Sheehan bashing

Bonkers isn't it? I wish we had 2 or 3 more as comfortable in possession as he is. We'll miss him when he's no longer here.

Why ? Where's he going ? What have you heard ?

'With respect that's like saying all Bonham does is make good saves and all Forino does is defend well. I'm not expecting them to take corners or sprint down the wing.

Nowhere. Apparently he's so good other teams are scared to come in for him

Enjoyed that today. Thought we played well and was impressed with Davies’ composure, Stephenson’s energy, Dong’s confidence and speed (reminded me a bit of ACD, albeit not at his level) and Gale’s tracking back. Sheehan was stand out for me - ran the show for us.

The lad and I got a pic with Big Sam before the game and saw Reid afterwards. Mini me’s highlight was when someone held the door open for him to leave 1877 and he looked back (mouth ajar) to see it was McGinley with a big grin on his face.

Watched it in Embankment Bar Benidorm

couldn't get fuck all on Anything Even Wanderers TV for the first 10 mins

than sone Lad sorted it out

Free Drinks for the rest of the night

enjoyed it

Everton been mid-table prem for 2 season now....shout for Europe for much of last season, just tailed off a little at the end.

Never in a relegation fight.

I suppose the Everton that we played on Saturday was nearer to a bottom 8 Prem team than a top 8 one, with a few absences (and substitutions) that you'll be more familiar with than us.
