The Pompey V Bolton Match Thread!

In megson we trust ! Its coming ! No defeat, no surrender !!!

Fine words that man, Megson was'nt responsible for not having anyone on the post was he. Yes it was a poor performance again, but the players have to take alot of responsiblity for the performance. For anyone to suggest getting rid of Megson now is just sheer lunacy. He's building, give him another 1 or 2 years, but don't expect him to build a side to challange the top 6, it aint going to happen.

Fk the criptic clues Snowball, give us a name of:

1. A potential manager

2. A potential manager who is currently available or has a clause in his contract that'll allow him to talk to Bolton.

3. A potential manager who, having passed the prerequisites mentioned in 2, would actually come to us.

4. A potential manager who, should he not be the bloke the fans would have chosen, is thick-skinned enough to put up with the amount of shit that megson puts up with.

Why don't we just find the person who recommended David Moyes to Everton and ask them?

The complete apathy of the fans is what ultimately will finish off megson, at the moment we are virtually bankers to lose all our away games and all our home games against the top 6, this cannot be allowed to go on, on the flip side Megson probably deserves another transfer window to bring in the players he believes can take us forward, this close season is make or break for me 1 or 2 exciting signings will go a long way to getting people back on board ad I hope that Megson can pull it off, as I am 100% sure sacking manager's on a regular basis for the sake of it is not the way to go.

That's what really nags away at the back of my mind, Mounts. Are we safe on 37 points ? Megson thinks not.

Are we scrapping in every game for any point we can get ? Erm, sometimes .... now & then.

Five games left : home to a top-six club & two away ...... so on current form all our eggs are in two baskets if we need more points to survive - Hull & Sunderland at home. But what if, in those two games, we get more injuries, bad reffing decisions, concede more soft goals ..... it's getting too close for comfort again unless the players wake up like they did last season at this stage.

Glass is half-full, but the contents are dribbling away. Are we all so sure that BWFC can't possibly suffer like Sheffield United last season ?

Portsmouth drew their last home game 2-2 with West Bromwich, that highlights how poor this performance was.

We went out for a 0-0 and got what we deserved. Pompey had sussed our attacking ploy at the moment which is a high goal kick to KD on the right wing. They put Hreidarsson on him who is about the slowest full back to have played in the Premier League, but is good in the air.

We never once got round the back of them and otherwise played a high ball up the centre continuously, which is where they are strongest with Campbell and Distin. I don't think Elmander won a header all game, not surprising when he never looks at the ball when he is jumping.

A bit of pace would have taken them apart, but even at the end Smolarek couldn't get on.

One thing puzzles me at present. There is a new write up on the Official web-site with pen pictures of coaches, including Alan Cork, the no 2 coach. He says that he judges players on how they pass the ball 10 yards. Can anyone please explain when there is rarely anyone within 50 yards of our one up attacker, how much use would 10 yard passes be?

Lousy game and journey home.

Being outplayed does not mean we went for a 0-0, it means the other team played better and restricted what we did. Fratton Park ain't the easiest place to go, esp on a hot sunny day when the locals fancy it. Sometimes in football you get outplayed, they have a good day you have a bad one, you lose and you get pissed off with it.

If we want to sack the manager every time Bolton Wanderers don't win a game in the 'toughest league in the world', might as well install a fookin turnstile at the front desk.

Yesterday was a mixture of good and bad. The good included a nice and quick journey down there and a nice pub near the ground. The bad included the performance, the stewards, the views and ermm more stewards.

My seat was in block N which had been nicked by pompey fans...wasnt a good start, I finally found a seat near the front.

When i asked the steward why my seat had been sold again he said it was Bolton's fault  how ive no idea.

Atmosphere wasnt good from the away fans. The stewards were terrible, especially that one in the yellow jacket who looked remarkably like Gary Glitter.

It was the first time i had been there and i dont think ill be going again.

Back to the performance, we were never in it. Only shot on target i remember was Elmanders in the first half. We are still very much in a relegation battle.

since the end of January they've only lost to Chelsea and liverpool, beaten us, Citeh and Everton. and drawn the other 4.

:yahoo: Well that's alright then! Brilliant result! Why did we bother turning up if Portsmouth are so formidable? We already write off matches against the top six, shall we extend that? What utter bollocks. If we'd played well and lost fair enough but there are NO excuses for that performance. Just what would it take for you and Tyler to wake up. I'm all for looking on the bright side but for God's sake, who are you Megson's mother?

I acknowledged the performance was shite. Because it was.

I just don't think a shite performance justifies sacking a manager who has improved on what he took over. If 12 months from now things haven't moved on again, then it would be something to look at.

Bolton Wanderers and football in general is not black and white, there's a very large patch of grey. Losing doesn't = sacking, just like winning doesn't = Champions League.

Grow up.

Apparently, we sold tickets randomly rather than blocks, so that, when we returned tickets for Pompey to sell, they were all over the place.

So, when we arrived, we were told to sit anywhere. Unfortunately one nohead steward hadn't realised, so tried to move us to our seats.

Anyway, super weekend, pity about the football.

If you'd read any of my other comments correctly you would know I don't want Megson sacked.....yet. I'm with Mounts. If he manages to get a couple of good signings in the summer and takes us up a notch, fair play I will be right behind him.

Whats pissed me off is the excuses some are making for yesterday. As for acknowledging we were shite your post seemed to blame the weather, the locals, Fratton Park etc. Anything but us. We were shite. I don't even think Pompey were that good. If we had been beaten by the better team instead of by our own attitude of going for a 0-0 daw, fair enough. I blame Megson for that performance and that result.

Or the person who recommended Roy Hodgson to Fulham.

What about the man who got Allardyce to us?

Or the one who recommended Coyle to Burnley?

And yes we were awful. But, come on, this is Bolton Wanderers, we've ALWAYS had the ability to turn up and play awful, no matter who the manager is.

First season they were up 5-ish games in to the season we turn up at their place and get tonked 4-0. It happens we'll get over it, West Brom, Boro and Hull/Sunderland/Barcodes'll go down and hopefully we'll improve next season. If we play shite next season and are seriously languishing near the bottom then we might get rid of Megson, not now!

Depends on what you think he took over, a) a decent squad capable of a euro challenge, when judged over the previous years. or b ) a 5 points from 10 games team , selectively judged over a short period of time. I'd go for a)

You need to look at the facts, then, rather than history through your selective memory.

i'll humour you

why would you go for a) (other than the fact megson is a ginge)

id watched almost every game of the 8 or 9 months post christmas and we were shite in plenty all of them

sams team were finished - run out of legs (lee saw this but fcuked up on how to sort it)

even great managers like ferguson/wenger reach times when they have to rebuild new teams

allardyce had reached that time, and bright bloke he is, he got out while his stock was at its height

megson took over when we were looking doomed and despite losing our best player, has (probably) kept us up 2 years running

the team is younger and better than the one he inherited

You mean after we were 3rd? after beating Portsmouth at the end of 2006. Very selective aren't we . You're telling me a side capable of 3rd position mid season that tailed off 'dreadfully' to still achieve UEFA qualification, was basically a load of shite . Do me a favour.
