Having said that, I agree that there is a disconnect, but to blame it on Megson is irrational. People getting upset by him having a go at the fans are just thin skinned whingers looking for any excuse to have a go.

Now I'm not for a second excusing the bell ends who seem (at the game, never mind on t'internet) to be Megson bashers just for the sake of it (and have generated some of the right mardiest atmospheres I've known during me 30+ years of going), but the fact is his PR has been awful - he "appears" to be completely disinterested in the fans...until they give him grief that is. So much of the angst could have been nipped in the bud by him coming over to travelling fans and giving them the old Stuart Pearce clenched fist celebration after a win. A bit of connection. But it seems beyond him. Which is silly, because it's really not that hard.

ah but its not me doing the whinging, cockers, as I said; however, as a business with a turnover in the multi tens of millions it might be worth BWFC spending the trivial amounts required to forestall whinginess amongst lesser souls via application of appropriate PR.

Or summat

Fuck it - I'm looking forward to getting kegged up at Hull :drinks: :drinks:

Some of the 1,400 who travelled to Lisbon will disagree with that.

Can you stop posting on my behalf whilst talking shit

Anybody who went to Lisbon thinking we would play a full team is retarded. I went with a mate of mine and we both knew that it would be a weakened team and so did most of the other lot I spoke to who went. People didnt agree with it but they knew it was happening so that point is a load of horseshit.

As one who travelled, I knew it was inevitable that it would be weakened.

And rightly so we thought, as we then thought we'd give Wiggin a good game :nea:

Don't think we thought it would be quite as weak to be fair; and as I recall nobody foresaw the apparent negative effect had on those left behind.

It's a bit easy in retrospect aint it

I reckon we will finish mid table with what we have at the moment, defence looks better with Knight and I'm sure Kinight and Cahill will score a few goals this season, midfield looks better, goals coming from a few players, Taylor, Davis we still look short upfront, SKD will get a few and hopefully Elmander will be more settled this year, stay fit and score more. Still think we need another striker and a creative midfielder though

Perhaps employ the guy who does Putin's PR?

I stand by my original prediction that if he is still in charge...

Relegated along with Hull and Porstmouth...

and I have since seen anything to contradict this........compounded with failure to win your home games will almost certainly see you down.

On average, 41 points gets 16th place in a 20 team top division. For solid improvement, we need more points.

On paper, the squad looks a bit deeper and a bit more solid than last season. But, as of now, I think we lack the creativity & ball-holding in midfield to win those games at home against teams around/below us that we were drawing last season. If Davies & Taylor can't match last season's scoring rate, and if Elmander doesn't come good, that will be a further problem.

I'm hoping hugely that we sign a couple more players to minimise those problems, but I have the sinking feeling that any further signings won't change the quality of the squad much and we'll largely go with what we've got.

Thankfully there seem to be several clubs with less than we have.

In which case : a solid unexciting season, occasional flirting with the bottom three, a couple of cup-tie wins, 42 points and 14th/15th final position.

26 days of the transfer window left .....

Birmingham

Blackburn

Burnley

Hull City

Portsmouth

Stoke City

Sunderland

Wigan Athletic

Wolves

All these will finish below us at least

Any change of mind yet MG? I still think there are at least three teams worse than us. There's certainly plenty of time for Burnley to be found out at home as they are away.

The thing that worries me is that I'm pretty sure lots of Newcastle and 'boro fans were saying exactly this last season.

Thats really clever about a third way through the season!

What are your other predictions? Chelsea and Manu in a two horse race for the title?

Posted

I have maximum bets (?20) on us and Portsmouth finishing bottom based on their financial sitation and our performance against Sunderland. Is that aftertiming?

Posted

Not as such.

Aftertiming is posting the bet after the event has finished.

Your statement is similar to saying you've backed the 2nd favourite and 5th favourite in the Grand National, telling us about it after 1/3 of the race when there's still nearly half the field in contention.
