frankietheman Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Hope so too. sadly at his age and with his condition it don't look good for the great man.
bigbenbwfc Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 whats up with him? if he passes away without getting knighted i will be truely pissed off he has done far more for club and country than whisky nose!
frank_spencer Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 whats up with him? if he passes away without getting knighted i will be truely pissed off he has done far more for club and country than whisky nose! Sadly for Nat the rules won't allow him to be knighted for services to football as he's already got an OBE/MBE for that. not saying it's right but that's how it is.

OBE. If that's the case it's completely ridiculous especially when you take into account some that have been honoured. It would be too little too late now though IMHO.
HR Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 I hope the great man gets better soon. Nat's too good to be knighted, head and shoulders above most of those who have knelt before royalty. He will always be my hero, the fact that recognition of him hasn't reached the mainstream makes him even more special.
BWFCOLINH58 Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 the legend has been ill for a while, and before the lion goes, bolton, or the fans should commision a statue
gonzo Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 'sir' chris hoy? cycled round a track 3 times, just happend to be quicker than 4 other blokes whilst doing it. bollocks.
SpiritofBurnden Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Never mind the knighthood, where's the statue? There's a one of Tom Finney outside Deepdale. There's statues of Stan Mortensen and Stanley Matthews (and soon to be one of Jimmy Armfield) outside Bloomfield Road and yet outside our ground...

Gonk Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 No doubt it will be erected after the great man passes away, it should have been built where the spirit of sport is and the road named Sir Nat Lofthouse way.
MickyD Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I remember hearing that Sir Nat had stated to the club that it would embarrass him if they erected a statue of him during his lifetime. It wouldn't surprise me, if that's the case, if all the plans were already made. For all we know the statue may already be done.
medwaywhite Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 sorry to hear the great man is not very well. will always be my hero. how many knighthoods have there been only 1 lion of vienna
SpiritofBurnden Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 For all we know the statue may already be done. It's not, but it's been discussed. If Blackpool and Preston can raise the money for statues, we sure as hell could raise the money for one of Nat, possibly with a relief of the '58 FA Cup winning team around the base.

Perhaps the current squad could donate ?1000 each to get the statue fund going. Get the BEN on the case
jazza Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 fuckin hell the great man isn't dead. Get well soon Nat top man there's plenty of time for statues later
SpiritofBurnden Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Perhaps the current squad could donate ?1000 each to get the statue fund going. Get the BEN on the case Raising the money won't be a problem. Nat's ill health is more of an issue. It will happen but it should have been done years ago when he could have unveiled it himself.

Traf Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Micky & Frank are correct. Nat was approached a while ago for his opinion and he said he'd be too embarrassed to see it in his lifetime. Such a humble bloke: A WORKING CLASS HERO.
Happy Wanderer Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Nat hasn't been himself for quite awhile. I just hope he turns the corner and sees out this season as I trust the players will do him proud with a top 5 finish. The statue has been discussed for it's location and thoughts on design but nothing final. Nat has always seen himself as an ordinary bloke and wonders what all the fuss is about, very humble indeed.
surrey_white Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Lf5MIJrnxI Great link to our Nat celebrating the goals in the Play off Final in Cardiff. Get better soon The Lion of Vienna
