Spider Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Right Those 96 people should have made it home, no-one thinks otherwise. In many ways, it was always going to be something like this that was the catalyst of a watershed for English football, that needed to happen. It's a shame it took a tragedy on this scale. It's no coincidence that Liverpool fans have since gained a reputation for shifting blame around. So many fans are tired of their constantly self pitying attiitude. They would have the support of every single football fan if they would just show a glimpse of humility, but that won't happen. Until it does, the spectre of a huge compensation claim will linger over them like a workshy Sword of Damocles. Quote
no balls Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 (edited) The Sun. And obviously everyone believes them. Exactly. Did anyone think it a serious reporting paper before hand? Anyone who did, I'm sorry your illusions were shattered. Did we ever find out if Freddie ever ate that hamster? Edited September 13, 2012 by no balls Quote
stevieb Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Theres a lot of blinkered opinions on both side adding fuel to fire in Group 1. Theres also a lot of reasoned opinions asking for the whole picture to be considered in Group 2. Group 1 are selectively reading Group 2's posts and going all apoplectic. Im almost praying for a loss on Saturday so the Coyle out threads can return as a bit of respite! Quote
bolton va va Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Come on Miami, everyone knows there were 8,000 Bolton in Scarborough that day...... On topic though, and for about the billionth time, if the "justice groups" would simply issue a statement that says "We know Liverpool fans had no tickets and were jibbing in pissed up, but every set of fans did the same back then", not one person on here (or anywhere else) would have a problem with them chasing the Police for explanations. That's all it would take, honestly. The Police would then be free to say "Yep, they turned up in more numbers than we prepared for, we fucked up with the standard of policing, they fucked up with their careless, contemporary attitude". Times have moved on. It's time now for the families to do the same. Of course, they won't. Would that not weaken any compensation claim though ? Quote

bolty58 Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I'm going to throw some fuel on the fire here. Miller is a relative young un - doesn't remember the crazy world of us football fans in the 70's and 80's (which the majority of us who were there wouldn't have missed for the world BTW). I'd wager that the others on the 'egg on face', 'hang your head in shame' bandwagon are from the younger end too. It seems that we have created a generation or two who blindly accept 'official reports' without resorting to any sort of thought process. Takes effort that thinking lark and it is much easier to accept 'the word from above' - in other words, have the State do your thinking for you. Orwell predicted correctly. Nearly every controversial subject we discuss on here (immigration, religious differences, homosexuality - you name it) produces howls of sanctimonious protest from some who believe they hold the moral high ground by throwing racist/bigot/homophobic labels around - often completely out of context. I see parallels in this case. You reap what you sow. Quote
HomerJay Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 there was a cover up before, is it possible this is yet another cover up? that was a btw question, not a statement... theres a difference. nothing is impossible, and seeing as my opinion doesnt actually mean shit, i'll keep and open mind thanks. Tonge moor green jacket Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 the cctv we have all now seen clearly shows why it was done.Absolutely. He shouldn't have lied, and to be honest don't know why he did, but there's more coverage of that, and not what actually was going on. Watched it all happen live and clearly remember seeing crushes outside on reports. Fair enough if you want to expose cover ups and get to the truth, by that works both ways. The poor sods that died: if they're going to get some justice then let's hear some apologies from those creating mayhem outside Quote

Poor crowd control by the police and untrained stewards. The idea that caging in football fans was sensible and safe. Fans turning up late and ticketless with the plan of jibbing in, as was common amongst all fans in that era. The cover up and lack of accountability at all levels since the incident is scandalous and people need punishment for it. Quote
