if we win tonight and then lose on saturday this site will blow up!

Someone has pointed out that his last ever goal for Palace came on this day, Tuesday October 23rd 2007 five years to the day he left them and came to Bolton.

Conspiracy theorists; over to you.

The poster on that link who said " He is Still Tactically inept" was the one that sent a shiver down my spine. Think this appointment will spell the end of the fat prick from Leigh.

nah

there'd have been posters on here laughing at west ham when they took on fat sam

there's bound to be a certain "didn't want him anyway" mindset knocking about

no idea miself

wait and see

even if he gets us promoted, there'll be someone down the line saying gartside got it wrong

BBC site says Palace have the worst defensive record in the league. Our main concern is our Defence. Oh dear, although I appreciate you can't polish a turd so he may be up against it anyway sorting out that back line.

He will have my full support if he takes the job.

That comment had me worried too. I hope this is not a fryingpan/fire appointment, because that will look like we've done it on the cheap again.

Having said that I'll give him a chance and my support.

It's not Smiffs fault

A young scottish manager with one good season in the Championship, will we ever learn from our mistakes? He will get my full support whilst he is our manager, just have a feeling this will end up with another 'promising' manager's career in tatters..

Quotes from BBC site

"Won just once in Palace's first five games, conceding 14 goals in the process"

"No side has conceded more goals at home than Palace (12 in six games)"

Brilliant.

Aye, because all young Scottish managers who have had one season in the Championship will always be exactly the same.

He might turn out to be the dogs bollox but selecting a manager just like any other job you can only judge him on what he has already achieved, West Ham owners did just that when selecting Allardyce and guess what he did exactly as he has done everywhere he has been, now lets look at the facts on what DF has achieved? saved Palace from Relegation, the appointment to me seems like stick your finger in the air and pluck a name at random, lets hope he can at least achieve what he did at Palace last year.

Don't sit on the fence you'll get splinters in your arse...

Are we giving him -6 games before we make our mind up then?

George Burley, Billy Davies, Jim Jeffries, Owen Coyle, Paul Lambert, Dougie Freedman....all have 2 things in common. I'm not making it up...honest!!

I'm far from sat on the fence, their defensive record is even poorer than ours. I just can not fathom this appointment.

Maybe its the players that are shit and not the manager

aye, it was more about the palace fans who claim to think he's not all that - wouldn't read anything into that as i wouldn't any who thought he was their best ever - simply because we know nowt about him

and you're right, it is a finger in the air job - to be honest, this one was always going to end up like this given we're not PL anymore

for me, anyone taken on was going to be a gamble because they'd either be at a smaller club with lesser achievements or out of work, for a reason

still, the club said from the outset that they wanted a young, up coming manager, and they've got one, so let's hope everything else goes to their plan

granted. but they've only won 2 games more this season. they lost their first 3 in the league, before getting thumped 4-1 to preston in the cup. I just think the appointment is far too coyle-esque for my liking.
