Sweep Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 The crowd looks pretty impressive, was it one our usual 70K+ crowds that we used to get at Burnden? Quote

Whites man Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 We should never have left. Too right. They could have continued the redevelopment they started with the away stand in front of the Normid. Quote
Thorpey Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I was there and cant remember us ever playing in red at home but maybe we did? I was only a little 'un but remember that we were one of 4ish games on that day, match abandoned and the biggest snowball fight I've ever seen. Quote

Whites man Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 match abandoned and the biggest snowball fight I've ever seen. Smithills School had some massive snowball fights, hundreds a side, no quarter given stuff. A truce used to be called if a car came along the road between the 2 parties & that got hammered. Happy days. Quote
White on Tyne Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I vaguely remember queuing for ages to get into the burnden and some owd codger telling me dad that it was the only game on in north west so randoms had turned up and that Match of the day had brought the cameras over from old trafford as that game was off and they "needed" the game to go ahead fert telly. He may of course have been full of shit but spose it explains why game kicked off at least. Quote

I was in the mix in the Early 80s at Smithills but the Grammar always got ganged up on by the Moor and the High. Jack Farr (dep head) got caught a cracker I remember! Quote
