RONNIE PHILLIPS Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 There were plenty Bolton in the riverside too...I was one of them! Quote
COYW Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 With out doubt Boltons biggest away following since the 60's was. Ewood 1978. Crowd was around 27thou. Estimated Wanderers fans 15000. Darwen end . 100% bolton Blackburn end . 40% bolton Riverside all roverz Main stand . 20% bolton. When worthy scored the place went mental. There were more than 15,000 there from Bolton. Most estimates put it nearer 20,000. Blackburn's previous home gate was around 9,000. Their season was effectively over before they played us in the days before play-offs. Quote
RONNIE PHILLIPS Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Huddersfield in the cup & Blackpool on Boxing day 77 were massive followings too. Quote
gonzo Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 great video of that filmed from west lower it captures everything Quote
embankment Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Was mad but the crowd was only around 6 thousand in total. Quote

It was a home game that night, Bolton fans in every nook and cranny, when frank scored the whole and I mean the whole ground went up as one, a night I will never forget Quote
COYW Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Great read: http://www.brfcc.com/mb/topic/29360-biggest-away-following-ever-at-ewood/ "Bolton, when they went up with Worthington et al, had the whole ground bar the BBE." "i went the Bolton one with my Dad. Jesus,i despise em but they must have had 20,000 plus on that night. Bloody dodgy night for Rovers fans" "Had a few in the BBE as a few of us found out to our cost that night - happy days! " "We was on the Riverside - but cant for the life of me remember why - - The entire ground erupted when they scored and we suddenly felt - very very alone!" "Without doubt Bolton in the late 70s. They were everywhere, all the Darwen End, most of the Bburn End and all over the Riverside where I was." "Pretty certain that's the biggest away following I've seen in 50ish years at Ewood." Quote

Makes you proud to be a Wanderer, our support at times can be pretty crap but there is still a very large latent support for BWFC which shows up only occasionally, most fans of other teams and even our younger fans dont realise the scale of our support. Jol_BWFC Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 another video of it What an amazing celebration - especially the high fives as 2:28... Quote
BOWTUN BAKED Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Posted it before But that was v funny Easter weekend so few QPR did fancy dress Remember watching bolton getting chased and kicked round the embankment by a bloke in a fez/gown and spiderman Think bowtun baked said he was in there One thing I used to "like" when the opposition scored a goal was watching the away fans reaction on the embankment When it was full it looked mental as they just steamed around in all directions Yes he was Got far too close to Mr Fez & gown too. Thanks for the memory Quote

The funniest comment on that thread was from this bloke: "Ewood was absolutely packed. They laughingly gave the attendance out as 27k. The biigest crowd fiddle of all time. There must have been easily 35k on." Quote
EyesRight Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 My grandma and grandad were at Ewood that day. My grandma always talks about how Bolton and Blackburn is a friendly rivalry and how they like to see each other do well because the whole stadium jumped up when we scored in that match haha Quote
jules_darby Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Top of my head... Biggest away following that I can think of from my era was OT in the cup in 91....10-12,000 Bolton out of 40,000 wasn't it? Quote
davidjack Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Yeah, 10k out of 43k. Followed by 9k at Goodison in 94 and 8.5k at Anfield in 93. Quote
davidjack Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Apart from Ewood in 78 I think we often took over 10k to Blackpool in the 70s. That Cup tie at Huddersfield in the 70s is always talked about as a massive 10k plus following too...and maybe Oldham in the 78 promotion season? Just before my time, sadly. Quote
davidjack Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Oh yeah, how many did we have that night? As many as them? And how many in first replay at SJP? Quote
COYW Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Around 15,000 to Everton for the League Cup semi-final in 1977. Two crowds of over 50,000 for the two legs. I wonder how often that's happened in the League Cup? Quote
Mounts Kipper Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 The comment from Blackburn fan about a Bolton fan with a red replica top which was unheard of in the 70s I think that might have been LA White anyone confirm that? Quote
Casino Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 newcastle spurs in 76 may have matched it? not many could do it now Quote
bolty58 Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 The comment from Blackburn fan about a Bolton fan with a red replica top which was unheard of in the 70s I think that might have been LA White anyone confirm that? Has Lever Ender in LA been on recently? Certain he was there - I was with a close mutual friend and certain we crossed paths a couple of times. Hopefully, he comes on to confirm but I'm sure we caught up at that pub over Tockholes after the game (gridlocked traffic jam - fuck it, let's go celebrate!). Don't recall a red top but it was a fucking long time ago! Quote
Guest Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Utd away FA Cup 1990; 10,000 tickets from memory Quote
MickyD Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Regarding the whole of Ewood jumping up to celebrate Worthy's goal. It happened at Burnden too. Bolton v Stoke. Our win kept Stoke's local rivals, Port Vale down in the third division and we went up with Stoke. Quote
