Liverpool v Bournemouth kicking off just as they come round the elbow in the National is a bit mental too.

You’d have thought the police would have said no to that one.

I think its more a reflection of the number of people stopping in at a weekend.  Sky aren't numb, they put games on at times when they think they can get an audience for it, there'll be enough sad folk watching this no bother.

To be fair I'd rather go to a night game on Saturday than having to arse about getting in late in the week and having to get up for work the next day.

Police don't really have any say

They get asked, but if sky decide otherwise then they win

city fans kicking off about this and rightly so to be fair, last train back to Manc at 9pm

Brighton also being shafted by the KO time when they play at Utd in the cup

since when do games KO at 7.45 on a Saturday anyway?

Posted (edited)

Scum v Brighton is Saturday 7.45 too.

That’ll be handy for Brighton fans attending their first Cup quarter final in over 30 years.

EDIT: what Zico said!

police then withdraw consent to safety certicate

police win

Isn't it the Council who issue them?

Police didn't want Newcastle v Sunderland kicking off on a Bank Holiday afternoon/evening

Sky did, sky won

And it kicked off - might have been the one with the bloke trying to punch the police horse

im sure it will be the council but its a brave council employee who ignores the views of the police

bit like pubs are licensed by the council but plod can shut em down at a stroke

tbf prem clubs will prob just pay what the police ask for

I would have thought that once the certificate is issued, it covers a set period like a year or a football season so if plod object to a kick off time to say a match half-way through the season, as long as there is a certificate in place there isn't much that can be done to change it

Plus if it kicks off away from the ground then I doubt its the club's responsibility

Pretty sure Police get a say in the fixture list at the start of the season before they are published

I’d be surprised if no consultation went on

In terms of Saturday night games, no different to mid week night games in reality, if anything slightly easier for most because of work commitments

it's still shit though if you wanted to go on the train, to a game, on a saturday, which most away fans probably do

tv games are normally 12 or 5.30 on a sat, or up to 16.30 on a sunday

at least you pretty much know from the day the fixtures are published as to whether a game is midweek or not

this new time isn't very helpful for fans who have to travel a fair distance to get to/from a game, and don't want to drive / go with kids & flids

The games up really , consider :

FA cup reduced to a shadow of its former self (for multifarious reason too many to list)

Sky and now the BBC dictating k.o. times to suit its armchair pundits.

legions of over pad ex pros pontificating over games where the paying spectators cant be arsed (8000 at Swansea & not saying we would do much better in the same position)

Winter break been muted which will again water down the attractiveness of the FA cup given that replays are likely to go.

The introduction of a winter break would seriously threaten the viability of some smaller clubs but it probably wont stop the

authorities ploughing on regardless.

If I wasn't an owd  entrenched & slightly unhinged fucker  I think I'd sack the lot off

Honest question if you were a youth again would you commit to this pile of garbage  or take up tree spotting instead

Most yoof follow their chosen Prem/foreign team via telly/internet/fifa anyway unless their parents/family drag them along to a game there's not the same desire to go to the footy.

Teenage lads (and their parents) would rather go round to their mates for a FIFA session than go down to the local footy team of a saturday afternoon.

Being honest if it wasn't for my grandad i'm not sure i would've gone to the footy, mainly coz i was a nerd at school and my mates would be playing D&D of a weekend

Great question that. Actually think I’d have poured the hundreds, thousands I’ve spent into travelling

In fairness we don’t do badly at all for yoof support going along with their mates etc and probably not too dissimilar at other clubs at our level, and much further down the leagues.

Merseyside is probably a good case in point. Scouse kids have little chance of going to Liverpool or Everton. Marine played at Athy Colls earlier in the season and had a coachload of 14-17 year olds who were buzzing to be able to go a game, and similarly Prescot Cables get upwards of 50 yoof of a similar age to most home games which represents a seriously high proportion of their crowds.

If anything, it’s become a lot more affordable for kids to attend games these days. My lad’s season ticket costs half of what it cost me at a similar age when we first moved to the Reebok. As long as the club keep making the effort as they have in recent years then we’re in safe hands for years to come.

The clubs at the top of the Prem gave up trying to attract kids and families a long time ago so will naturally become ever more reliant on the tourist pound.

There does definitely need to be a lot more focus from the leagues and FA to prevent TV companies from taking the piss with kick off times, but outside of that Premier League bubble it isn’t really a huge issue for us.
