I'm not a fan of what I'm about to say because it's used unnecessarily at times. But Oldham is a proper northern club. Good to see them back in the league. Chuffed for 'em.

That’s the hope. How long will Peter Coates want to pour his fortune in to chasing the dream? They will never be big enough to sustain a premier league existence.

They’re in our bracket imo. Us, Stoke, brum, West Brom etc etc. Up for ten years, down for ten years and so on.

He is just a frontman - his daughter is the moneymaker.

The TV money and inflated transfer market makes it easier for them to clear the decks than it did for us and Blackburn. Thanks to Captain Clap we not only went down at the worst possible time, we went down with little saleable assets

...in other news stoke have signed that terrorist sympathising scum fuck of a man James McClean today, as well as Tom Ince.

An utter cunt signed by utter cunts.

...is a pretty fair and succinct assessment of the situation.

I've never really understood the ire towards McLean. He's a Catholic from a staunch republican area. Can't blame him really for not wanting to wear a poppy on his shirt

I thought him a cnut but there's an interview that changed my mind

Covered this on here long ago; folk from the republic died in ww2 seemed to be a fair repost.

The poppy represents the forces that have protected him and his family whilst he’s earned thousands of pounds plying his trade in this country.

The troubles have fuck all do with fallen soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan and god knows where else whilst he and his family have lived on these shores.

It’s about respect. Which it appears he has none.

How many people living and growing up in staunch republican areas are going to view the British army as protectors?

It's great that as a nation we honour our war dead. Not sure why we expect 'the other side' to honour them as well. Noted that there were probably many Irish catholics fought with us in WWII but given everything that happened after 1969, it's not a surprising stance that he took.

He only refused to wear a shirt with a poppy on. I don't find it 'discusting' like the Stoke fan in your tweet. I find it admirable that he had the balls to do it

Not another word required from me. Spot on Gonzo.

Happy to take English pounds the fucking hypocrite (shit, a couple of words from me then).

You must be from a different planet to me.

As bad as football authorities deeming the poppy a political symbol. More left leaning lunacy.

Re the poppy stuff those heroes have their lives so your Mcleans could have the choice on such matters. No one should be made to wear a poppy but you should want to imo.

He does come across as an oink though. I remember him giving the wanker sign to us all at Wigan away numerous times one season

I’d respect him more if he chose not to work under British rule if he feels that strongly.

LIverpool 2 City 1

hand the reds the title now imo

If he does'nt want to wear a poppy thats fine its not mandatory .

He would be a bigger hypocrite if he wore it when he thought he should'nt just to conform & I'll bet plenty do.

You could be right now they've signed Fred and the World Cup Pogba is looking the goods.

Let's hope you're wrong though eh?

Spot on, whilst I always buy myself a poppy pin badge and chuck a bit extra in the tub.

It's as silly as the redneck Yanks getting upset at the nfl players taking a knee, then bleating about free speech when anyone dares to question the actions of some right wing fruit loop.

Personally I found his deliberately turning his back on the British anthem more annoying than his refusal to wear a poppy. Still it's his right to do so.

It's his right to do so Frank, but for me it's the misguided reasoning behind it. Can he not do so in remembrance of his fellow countrymen fighting the tyranny of Nazism?

For me the poppy isn't about "British" but allies.

Ghurkas, Indians, Anzacs whatever. All count.

It's MacLean's right to do as he pleases.

It's everyone else's right to call him a cunt for it.

It's time folk stopped getting annoyed by it.

Thought he said it stems from being from Derry and the role of British Solders in Bloody Sunday though he'd happily wear it if it only related to wars

That's exactly what he said

That football focus interview, admittedly cosy, he comes across as very likeabke

The Poppy is a symbol to remember the people who were killed in war.

Soldiers don’t start wars, politicians do.

It is not political.

Anyone using it for political reasons, wether nationalistic or politically is wrong, very wrong.

Whether.

What is the point in that first h?

Bloody pointless.
