I'm not a fan of what I'm about to say because it's used unnecessarily at times. But Oldham is a proper northern club. Good to see them back in the league. Chuffed for 'em.

Arbroath?

Was by the sea funnily enough but slightly warmer. Juve Stabia 2 Mantova 1

Enjoyed it. Ultras never stopped and angry Italian OAPs are always entertaining. 3 quid for a Peroni and all.

Just a 7 hour drive back for the away fans

Rovers lose again, now 3rd from bottom.

I only realised at the weekend that Dom Hyam left Ewood & signed for Wrexham. He's a properly good, unfussy centre half who doesn't make mistakes.

I have a tenuous link there & was told that he almost doubled is salary. Now, we know Hollywood are chucking money around but it also suggests the purse strings are tight up there.

11000 at Ewood last night.

Not going to fill their coffers with that.

The only time they get many more is when there's a big away support. They give the bigger clubs between 5-7000 tickets, in a desperate attempt to fill the place.

Tickets sold or bums on seats? 😀 Home ends looked a lot emptier than for a Saturday match.

Morale has to be rock bottom after being ahead in 2 winnable home games and not having any points to show for it, and getting thumped at a promoted team.

It probably reflects Wrexham's budget more than Blackburn's; the likes of Kiefer Moore, Conor Coady, Nathan Broadhead, Lewis O'Brien, Callum Doyle, Ryan Hardie haven't signed for them so that they can play at that fabulous stadium.

The amount that have deserted them since the 90s is incredible. Not just stopped going but tossed em off completely. Proper noddy club not fit to battle with us.

Yet many years in a league above us.

Aye. I think that’s more on us than might Blackburn though

That club is all about passion. I've mentioned it before but during my very first visit in a month of June in the mid 70's, the favourite cousin (who at the time was playing in Serie D for a Sicilian club called Canicatti) decided to take me to Fuorigrotta one day because of my football obsession. Grass was a foot high, no pitch markings, all entrances open - bonnie blue Bonnie Blue.

The roads around the stadium were being patrolled by what seemed like a fleet (probably 6 of 'em in truth) of Fiat 500's with the soft tops rolled back and two or three loons in each with big Napoli flags screaming "Napoli, Napoli" as they circumnavigated the stadium. The season was two fucking months away! It was right there, right then I understood the depth of feeling for the club. This was at the time of the likes of Beppe Savoldi (striker purchased from Bologna) when they never won anything but more often than not finsihed the highest placed club from the South in the league standings and then produced flags "Campione Del Sud" (champions of the South) most seasons with Italian flag coloured scudetti with dates beneath them which drove the fans of the Northern giants (and the two Roman clubs) into fits of rage. Always been good wind up merchants with a febrile mob you wouldn't want to mess with.

He also introduced me to one of the youth squad who was from Salerno and had played football with Pepe all the way though growing up. My recollection is that he was called Carlo but the surname was unforgettable. Capone. Didn't ever do anything at Napoli I recall - he was completely in love with the adulation and the signorine throwing themselves at him. I suspect that his attention was on everything but the football.

I am looking forward to reading this book.

I enjoyed Eric Dier's 'Steve McLaren' post match interview yesterday when he spoke English with a cod French accent.

That's more or less his normal accent, to be fair
