The ALF thing

He wanted to play for us

Lennon wanted him

They are facts

The money didn't work so that could happen...everything comes with a price - what folk are willing to / can pay and what folk are willing to provide their services for / get paid

None of that makes the facts above untrue

No idea why the fuxk it matters now....BWFC in lack of funds shocker??

The Club/ Gartside should have made a clear statement some time ago to put all supporters in the picture regarding the position the club were in and clear plans for the future. Instead we get feed bits of what appear to be reactive action to situations in the BEN.which leads to rumour, speculation and a disgruntled feeling amongst supporters which doesn,t help the general feeling around the club.

Really. So why all the rumour and speculation then.

because of a lack of understanding and/or ignorance

in some cases, too much time spent on championship manager in their youth and fantasy football in general

most think they could do a better job

you know what's most shit about it all

the first two statements - I'd love it if a footballer thought what do they want out the game, to make money or to enjoy it - ALF will have still earned more than most, but has to now walk around looking disintersted and seemingly not enjoying himself at wolves, whereas for a pay cut he could be enjoying himself here and living close to home - same with nolan, if he really wanted to play for us if the stories are right, he could, as it is, he's earning nowt training with orient presumably hoping somone offers him 25-50k a week

i'm not stupid in that i know that money talks, but think this is why i'm just not into it like i was 20 years ago when you knew mcginlay etc were here because they wanted a game

bollocks to it

Good point.

These players could request bonus payments should promotion be achieved.

As shit as it surely no one can knock players for chasing the money. I would. Short careers and all that.

Not knocking them

Well

Cept the likes of Tyrone mears

And who can blame him either

But they could put the effort in if they agree to the money

As for being a short career, in the case of Alf a naive person might argue that he should make the most of it and enjoy it

Depends if they want to do owt after football

Doubt any of them would want or need to do what the likes of Defraitas did and try another career after

Very true. They might have a preference to come here, but they arent charities. Nolan's next deal is his last.

Wasn't there also a transfer fee with LeFondre? Which Wolves could afford, but we couldn't?

So even if he was willing to take a pay cut, there were other factors.

Don't think the issue was with ALF. He's only on loan at wolves.

id guess they were prepared to pay more of his wages than we were.

He will get paid what he gets paid by Cardiff.

I think that was it, Cardiff wanted a loan fee and Wolves could pay that and his wages too. I'd imagine we wouldn't have been far off paying Alf's wages (17K)? The loan fee was probably a killer though.

In our promotion season under Allardyce there was a defender in our team that even though a non regular earned 3K a week, he was very happy with that. That puts him on a pay scale with the current PM. footballers get injured, ladies on the check out at Tesco get let go, there is no difference, except the footballers get more, certainly now. D'you want to play or are you navel gazing?

if it was 17k, which i can believe

i think thats 3 x our normal offer

No offense Casino, but where have you got that figure from? Just a general feeling, or something more substantial?

Posted

purely conjecture

but, based on what i reckon we need to be paying to break even

16/20 players on 5k a week is 4 or 5 million

our post parachute income - ex positive transfer dealings - will be about that at the top end

average ticket price is 8,50 ish

lets say average 14k, so 3.5 million ish

chucking in a million and a half for all other income ( i really cant see it, tbh) and disregarding any other outgoings

work it out

Posted

sorry, didnt mean it to be arsey

all we know suggests that our normal signings will be at about that level

Can we still boo the £4/5k players? I can't wait to voice my displeasure.
