They have no need to come to the UK to be safe from fighting in Syria or Libya.  Nor is it our responsibility to lay on new lives for them. And sadly the German promise to accept as many people as they can cram in means more and more dead children washing up on beaches. 

 

It is tempting mind you to refuse to take a single person until the Muslim world does its bit but that would reduce us to their level.  Israeli hospitals are full of Syrian combatants from both Assad's and the rebel side, incidentally. That is on top of 60,000 or so asylum seekers from Eritrea and Sudan and others. So as you see a tiny bit of light does glimmer in the Middle East.

On point as ever. The footage shows young and fit men capable of vaulting fences and walking 80 miles to the Austrian border. Poor downtrodden refugees there clearly are but all of them - not a fucking chance.

 

Let's hope the majority eventually taken in are not future bombers or decapitators and are simply what I suspect we all already know - economic migrants.

 

DC's proposal to take people from refugee camps whose bona fides can be properly checked out and the correct processing procedures followed is leadership of the highest order in my view. Germany's policy is creating a large part of the problem.
