Clough was a passenger today. When he's not affecting the game offensively he needs to do more defensively. Like playing with ten men when he's off his game. Lennon should have brought him off earlier.

 

Danns is a waste of space at the moment. Hes a walking yellow card who just consistently gives the ball away. Vela or spearing need to replace him.

 

Prince and Dervite solid again. Developing a good partnership. Full backs weak today but Antonio was not at his best so we got away with it.

He was going across to Amos to politely ask him why he is incapable of finding Madine yet very good at finding clough, Wellington and Mark Davies

To me Madine isn't the problem the rest of the team need to get better at playing off him.

 

He's a target man, his finishing leaves a lot to be desired granted but he's certainly not a write off already.

This, a'la Kevin Davies, won all sorts of headers and knock downs. Clough needs to read it better - will come with time.

That was my biggest question mark after yesterday

 

Just re-watched the goals and they said a lot about our game

 

Their goal; Vaughan pretty much walks past Danns who gave up. Also have to criticise Mavies' efforts at getting across to him too. A real highlight of the need to defend all over the pitch and not just blame the defence

 

Our goal; Mavies drove forward and we created a bit of space. For far too long yesterday we were really predictable and it was easier to defend against - passing out wide and then drifting into the box mono paced. Too often there was little if any support going forward from anyone bar the front 2 and the wide men....again easy to defend against. Yet when Mavies or someone else drives it forward and there's a bit of movement it's so much more difficult to deal with

 

 

Hope that with a settled side the patterns of attacking play will improve as he reason for a lack of goals isn't "just" a lack of a proper scorer
