Town Centre Latest

Just had a meeting on Churchgate. Sad to see the Bolton News offices empty. And in a week or two the Travel Counsellors building opposite will be empty. Another 200+ people spending approx £20 per week on parking and lunches in the town... plus whatever other services they spend their hard-earned on - all being lost. Very sad state of affairs.

When will it get better? Should these empty offices be turned into apartments?

Whoever made the decision to allow Elephant & Castle to have outside seating wants shooting

first time in the town centre for about 3 years over Christmas when we went to the panto, not great is it. was like a ghost town at what would usually be peak time with people shopping etc

As far as I recall, there’s still a local bylaw preventing on-street drinking in the town centre. Same applies around the Reebok.

Perhaps there’s provision in the bylaw which allows for our cafe culture. 🤣

Only outside the

Man & Scythe

Obviously, if it’s still a bylaw, the council would need to cancel for each event on Victoria Square.

Beer garden / smoking shelter according to some staff. With plastic glasses only. Sometimes.

It's the same up the road at Three Crowns, except they actually have a beer garden at the back. And down the road at Hogarths and Churchgates is it called ?

Does the Man & Scythe has the yard at the back for all the fag ash Lilly's?

Depends on whether you're a glass half-full or half-empty person.

The council claimed to be owed £4m and as things stood, they were getting fuck all and it would have ended up going through the courts, where NCP's deeper pockets may have meant they'd win.

This way the council get £2.8m.

Hardly ideal, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Great video, in the 1st 10 seconds is the back of a nice motor, possibly a Trans Am or Pontiac Firebird, and the girl walking across the precinct from town hall had a nice arse👍

Plus bonus appearances by Elvis Costello and Pete Doherty.

New housing all round town now.

Down Chorley street past back of Lads club.

Bark street - Walking towards town - Load of new ones, built right upto the road - Front door on pavement pretty much, but balconies on the back.

The new ones facing Market.

These new ones in the link.

All will no doubt be snatched up by landlords & some Council and will be full of new families to the area....

aye

not one for bashing the town centre, but there's fuck all appealing about spending a couple of 00k to live in the town centre for young uns or families or whoever

there's much more appealing areas around bolton and manc city centre

Maybe not families, but perhaps young folk, looking for cheaper housing than city centre Manchester, but within easy commuting, it may be.

Especially if the area is done properly with suitable shops/eateries.

And maybe guards at the gates to keep out the "jungle" types from begging. 😁

Sickening.

Not town centre but as good a place as any as it’s new houses and might be of interest to anyone that played there, but, despite the original planning being rejected by Bolton Council  , works have now started on Wyresdale Football club and the club house has been demolished, there’ll soon be 94 houses on the pitches there .

All the satellite towns are struggling, Bury seems to be the best if a bad bunch. But read the Bury Times comments and it too is a shit hole apparently.

Been all over the country this past year or 2 and the places doing best seem to be focusing on history and culture things to create locations people want to visit and the regeneration stems from there. Plymouth was lovely around the harbours, Oxford was a bit disappointing and most of Sheffield was a proper shit tip.
