I've never drank alcohol, just once or twice when I were younger like trying it out, but my dad did like a drink, too much in fact, you'd not know by looking at him though, well a few days ago I get told he's been found dead in a friends house.

 

He had asthma and was suffering with it and he said he'd go for a lie down and was told to knock on floor if he needed them, next thing a big thud and they tried to help him, ambulance took 30 mins to come apparently (Rishton Lane, Great lever) was alive on the way to the hospital but died shortly after arriving.

 

At first we were told it was suspected cardiac arrest/heart attack, me and my sister went to the mortuary at Bolton hospital, that was grim, nicely candle lit room and him just there, body covered completely up with just his face, since then was told it wasn't his heart, and that it was suspicious, then we get told it was down to his liver, summat about fatty tissue and it failing.

 

It was a reason why I never wanted to drink and I'm not saying it's wrong to drink at all, but I think he went too far and didn't stop.

 

Gutted I'll not speak to him again.

Tragic news Dids, sorry to hear that. My brother would have been 58 in a fortnight, didn't make it to 53 though because of the demon drink. He just didn't have that switch which tells you when enough is enough, and there's lot of it about sadly. Chin up.

Sorry for your loss Diddles, never easy but more so when there appears to be a reason you maybe think you could have done something about.

Really sorry to hear this Dids, There's never a good time to lose someone but this is a particularly bad time. My condolences to you.

I have a touch of asthma makes me uneasy about traveling so I'm rarely back in England.

Anyway my deepest sympathies, you'll get through it.

They don't think like that Dids. I had a friend of a friend who was told under no uncertain circumstances if he went out and had a drink he would die. Discharged himself, and was last seen in the town centre boozing. he died not long after.

Thanks Whites Man, that's nice to know, he was certainly a character, and is sadly missed. Laying flowers at Heaton CC on December 5th as always to remember his birthday.

Sad story that Dids...hope you and your family remain strong.

To lose your dad is an awful loss, such pain but time will heal, miss my old dad like fuck but i remember the great times i had with him.
