25 Years Ago Tomorrow

We played some filthy bastards at Old Trafford in the fourth round of the Cup.

10,000 Whites present, most Salford lads were too loved up in the E scene to bother with our huge mob.

  • I remember the coaches on the East Lancs. It was like the coach park at Wembley. I also remember telling my oldest son, who was 10 at the time, that I would be swearing and that it would be a one off

 25 years - fucking hell!

I remember thinking what a cracking turnout it was - but then getting a third of that number going all the way to Marseille wasn't half bad either as it turned out!  By Christ I'd never have thought we'd be doing that 15 years later, as I trudged away from the OT game.

Wasn't it Tony Phillisirk who missed a sitter right in front of the Bolton fans ?

Then that fat arsed twat Hughes notched one nine minutes from the end....

Without googling, which dead person was in the nets for United that day ?

A free days viewing of Bonzo's porn collection for the correct answer....

25 years?? Yikes!

Sat right in line with Hughes shout as it was going a foot wide but the spin on the ball took it in

It was a long miserable walk home! Even worst turning out in school the following Monday although as expected I was the only one who actually went!

Me and 'the general' shouting 'shit' for 90 minutes that day day was strange.

Shouting 'United, shit' following Monday would have got me in real trouble If my head teacher didn't support notts county and understand how difficult it was supporting a 'strange' team in Stockport.

I was inside the pig and porcupine few off their boys came inside the pub they got sussed pretty quickly the cops came in and they quickly said were united let us leave, the cops didn't believe them, we then got herded outside again the United lads tried in vain to escape unfortunately for them we dragged them back into the escort they were shitting themselves and faces were a picture, in the end the mass cordon of police around us decided to spare them more grief and pulled them out to safety. We got escorted the long way round past the cricket ground and just got in to see Veron score. Great day out was that.

Can confirm WALKDEN / LITTLE HULTONS FINEST were in attendance , thought we being treated to an early christmas present when we saw SI and the lads walking down , till it was realisedwho it was . Oh well never mind still a very eventful day all in all

Proud to be a Wanderer Then and Now..

Oh a SI we were not all ugly bastards ta very muchly...

Took over all the red pubs in Manc city centre that day, Mother Macs was chocker block with Wanderers. Even some red mates from Tyldesley were saying you brought a tidy mob down. It don't seem like 25 years ago though.

Yes Philiskirk had a great chance in front of us. Lee Sharpe got some stick off us - YTS YTS YTS

Got some pics of that P. Will try and dig them out later.

nice one Si..would love to see them..such happy memories

We'd have played em the following year too if wasnt for Barry bastard Horne

A bit harsh to blame Barry bastard Horne OR Dave Flappy Felgate - Saints won a fourth round replay on penalties at Old Trafford to set up their fifth round tie with us.

If you really need to hate someone, I suggest Alan Shearer and Ryan Giggs.

Shouldn't be too difficult, should it?

Ah right always had it my head saints played them in next round after us.

Who did they play then?

i thought the same, think it was Norwich

United beat QPR in a game that was played after the draw in the year we played them, I went to the game and for the first time and last time I wanted United to win.

Met Phil Brown and Tony Philiskirk outside the ground

' are we going to do these bastards in next round ' I asked the more sun tanned one

'Oh aye' he replied, the lying sod

I was there for that as well. Where there is a will, there is a way. Took the eldest again and he wore his Bolton jacket. Got some funny looks but as I said to him on the day, fuck em. ( second time he heard me swear)

I was in the main stand for that game. I had been Sussed within 2 minutes when we won the first tackle!

just watched the below and it turned my stomach, even now

how good were our goals

looking back, id say the flappy one was the hardest one to save and he shouldve had that with his cap

i got home about half 5 and had to be in work at 6

horrible journey back on the train for us standing most of the way back

aye, thats it

bloody mail train

6/2 for me and was as grumpy as meldrew and your mate with the deep pockets :)

Took a Derby fan with me to the Southampton replay - still says it was the best footy day out ever - couldn't believe the support that night.

Our minibus broke down on the way back from that Southampton game. I got in at 7:30 and had to be in work at 8:30

Great day that. Couldn't believe how quick we got home though. Bus driver was like Mansell. Once the escort left us at the motorway we flew back.

I remember the pitch at The Theatre of Shite being like a ploughed field and the sinking feeling when Storer was injured

The away end after our goal looks ace

The away end after our goal looks ace

It was. Players seemed to want to play then, and fans respected that and responded.

Where did it all go wrong?
