44 Points

Seems we may have some fight in us

Beat Rotherham and I'm going 44 points to stay up

It's probably low historically but looking at the table that's my call

It's definitely doable

  • I reckon if we get more points than 3 other teams in our division we can stop up.

  • Imagine if the players had thought like that at 2-0 down last night.

  • if we can win sat, and bristol/charlton draw, then it's game on - but only if you forget what's gone on already this season, huddersfield was a kick in the balls and it was a good job really leeds wer

A few good results like the one last night breeds confidence, dick these on Saturday and we're back in the mix

Don't confuse pessimism with realism

I'm not.

Don't confuse pessimism with realism

I'm not.

But you are.

Let me put it a different way for you.

We are currently averaging 0.72 points per game at the moment.

By being 'optimistic' I gave us a figure of averaging 2 points per game in the 8 games left against teams placed 11th to bottom. (may I point out to you that 2pts per game is champion winning form & therefore not really realistic)

That left us needing 7 points out of 27 available in the 9 games against 9 out of the current top 10 sides. An average of 0.77 points per game, slightly more than our current average per game & marginally optimistic.

So in a nut shell, I've been optimistic to reach the 44 points, not pessimistic.

I've been realistic in considering we won't do it. Again, not pessimistic.

I hope you have learned something :)

As I say when making a really weak case at work, "sometimes you just have to look beyond the numbers".

Couldn't agree more.

That's why I said we need a miracle.

ITK FACT!

This. Dont get your hopes up lads. We are going down

I disagree - what happens on Saturday will have a big say.

Football's all about confidence - a win against Rotherham and all of a sudden the impossible just looks like the unlikely.

One of the teams in the bottom 5 can go on a decent run between now and the end of the season. Don't see why it can't be us - particularly if we get Clough back fit and in form.

if we can win sat, and bristol/charlton draw, then it's game on - but only if you forget what's gone on already this season, huddersfield was a kick in the balls and it was a good job really leeds were a cup game

probably need 3 wins in feb alone to really kick on, or 2 wins and a draw at least, march's fixtures look do-able

but come april derby, boro and hull  will be big asks if they are gunning for top spots

fuck knows

probably lose sat anyway, then win at brighton

It is my profound, if possibly deluded, hope that now the players know they are here until May, they might just be able to find the determination that's been lacking.

An even longer shot is that Lennon remembers how to organise a team properly because I'm sure he must have the ability somewhere. I know it was only Celtic but he clearly has some knowledge to draw upon.

A siege mentality would be my preference but the (very undersandable) apathy from the stands won't bring that about unless we string a couple of decent results together.

However - if we DO get those results, I know a Bolton crowd can be the best in the fucking country at making the opposition feel like shit (See Bellany's comment on Soccer AM last week). It won't take much - a few big tackles, players pumping the crowd up, showing a bit of pride - and we'll be in business.

The financial situation is the main reason for our position, andit could all be a bit too late.

But I say again, a pumped crowd of 15,000 Boltonian pisscans, yoof and ne'er do wells could be that extra defender we seem to lack.

So Fuck 'em. Fuck 'em all over this league. The cunts.

Do we need to start chanting the Great Escape tune again?

Do we need to start chanting the Great Escape tune again?

Only after we win 5-2 Saturday

The bottom few clubs have all averaged around the same in the last 10 games....around 10 points (including us)

Of those....Blackburn, Charlton, MK, Rotherham, Brizzle City all have worse form than us in the past 6 games

Not only is staying up possible, it's very achievable

Yes, we'd need to vastly increase our average PPG since the start of the season, but nobody in the depths is putting a run together; in fact Blackburn have 2 points from 6 games and Rotherham, Bristol and Fulham have 4 points from the same, so momentum is hardly with them either

I BELIEVE!

I actually believe 44 points is a high estimate.

That's more like it. Not to mention Blackburn have just lost their best player by a country mile, who scored nearly half of all their goals. We've done it before, albeit not from as bad a position as this, and there's nothing to stop us doing it again. Play to the whistle and all that.

Blackpool's very own Michael Owen :)

Your comparing apples and pears by splitting it out

Season to date we've averaged 0.72 ppg, against a mixture of top and bottom teams

The 23 pts from 17 required season to go would mean we need 1.35 ppg

As others have also stated the way some of our relegation rivals are looking that might be a little bit high as well

Doable

Be easier with a striker who can score though

Dependant on Clough getting back fit and firing like last season

Edited by birch-chorley

In our last two league games we've averaged two points per game

Champions form so it will be a piece of piss

In the 27 seasons of a 24 club second tier, 44 points has only once escaped the bottom three positions (and that was on Goal Difference).

Apart from that one season where 44 was pivotal there have been six other seasons where the relegated teams all had 42 or less.

Play to the whistle and all that.

Yep

But we need to start playing from the whistle as well

Starting on sat

In the botton half of the table over the last 5 games, only Blackburn are in worse form than us with 2 points from a possible 15.

We have 4 points from 15

Everyone else either equals or betters our return of points.

I split it out because over the last 2 seasons our performance against top half teams has been woeful to say the least.

Out of the 9 games to play against 9 out of the top current 10, the corresponding games this season has produced a massive 2 points out of 27 (home draws to Derby & Brighton)

If we were to survive this season we needed to beat teams in the bottom half, something we've struggled to do all season.

The plans for the relegation party at Fulham are well under way. Nothing would make me happier than it to be a survival party.

Sheff Weds, Mk Dons and Wolves last night. Three decent performances in the last 5 games gives us some hope to cling onto IMO.

How about a "44 pints" scheme. If we stay up all ST holders get our final points total (up to a max of 44) in ale vouchers. That would be an incentive to turn up and would see some of the ESLSC through to the end of August gratis
