If the report is true, then good for Bolton. I'd rather have hungry players like Baker who knows the bigger pay days will come if he performs.

The days of Mills, Andrews etc make me feel sick. We don't want mercenary types again

Great to see us sticking to our principals,  mr evatt has previously said we will only sign players who want to play for Bolton wanderers and who totally buy in to the project and path that we are on.

Like biggish Dave has said -  just listen to Nathan Baxters interview.    (Also definately not close to his house)

I'm amazed at how many people on here have such extensive knowledge of Wilson, Bacchus & Flick.

I think most of us have seen glimpses of the first two in action before - Wilson on the Football League Show, mainly in his last L2 promotion season with FGR where he was an outstanding player and Baccus in the World Cup in Qatar and SPL but only chatting to the fans of their clubs who watch them week in week out gives a decent insight when you filter out their natural bias. Turns out Baccus was brilliant when he arrived at St Mirren, then was average for a while but as soon as a transfer was mentioned he suddenly turned into a worldbeater :) Because of the link to us I watched him play against the Argies a couple of weeks ago and TBF he did well.

I knew nothing about Florian Flick before we were linked with him - vaguely remember his distinctive name from his brief appearances in the Bundesliga but he didn't stand out - so when he was linked with us I asked my 3 football-mad nephews who live in Germany (one of whom played against him at youth level) and they gave me the lowdown. Nephew was in the Mainz 05 youth set up and Flick was at Mannheim just down the road. Reckon he's a brilliant defensive shield who has great touch, distribution and can spot and execute a killer pass - but also said a few German sides were sniffing around according to the local sports media.

All in all it's just scraps of knowledge dredged up from obsessively watching footie on telly and (allegedly) a dodgy Firestick, chats with fans, the media and t'internet - but collectively enough to understand why Evatt would want those players in - or at least players with similar qualities and quality in those positions given our soft centre, occasional profligacy with the ball and inability to play through packed defences at times last season. Fact is Lee has left and Baccus would give us that quality but with far more running and stamina and Flick would be an upgrade on MJ - although if we'd signed him it would have been more likely to keep MJ and send Thomason out on loan.

None of which matters now unless there's a huge U turn or three. I certainly understand why Evatt would want those particular players but now I'm more interested in who they'll go after now.

His agent probably reckons he can get him a much better wage, wouldn’t be surprised if he’s emailing us again on deadline day asking to reopen talks

Anybody else think that the recent articles about Sadlier hint at him leaving?

Yep sounds like it; he couldn’t maintain a starting position at Orient last season and they don’t appear to be knocking on the door for him as well

It would be really surprising if Sadlier stayed. He consistently had impressive cameos from the bench but never had a proper run in the team and was then loaned out. I think Evatt has made his mind up and for whatever reason he doesn’t fit into his team, probably his work rate out of possession isn’t good enough.

Suppose the reality is the level of player we are wanting might be looking to play Championship football so will be holding on.

Add in then loan players might be dependant on other players at the parent club, it makes sense our final business will be closer to the end of the window .

Some insight into the Baccus deal here.

Apparently we weren't offering much more in wages than he was already getting at St Mirren - but also the suspicion that he was told his place in the Socceroos might be under threat if he made "a sideways move".

The mooted switch to Bolton, who made the League One playoffs last season, was viewed by many JOCKS as a sideways proposition for the five-cap Socceroo.

And there are suggestions FROM WHO, JOCKS? he may have been informed by the national team hierarchy that taking the Trotters option could even have jeopardised his Australia spot.

Nope - it's an Aussie source and no suggestion that the "many" were Scottish given that it references the Aussie national team.

Strange, if true. Don't think the Australian heirachy gets involved in that kind of thing. They have players in all sorts of weird and wonderful leagues.

There are half-a-dozen Socceroo's playing in the SPL, and none of them would get into this Bolton side, possibly with the exception of Baccus.

Youre just reading what you want to

No quotes all vague ifs buts and maybes

Theres no sane person thinks its a sideways move and even if it was, its definitely not a backward step

Prove yourself in England, every chance of progression

Therell always be doubts playing in a 2 team farmers league

Surely we'd have spoken with his agents to get an idea of the kind of wage he'd be looking for before even getting involved?

I suppose we might've just been used to push along interest elsewhere

And maybe hes just one of a few we have spoken to

But the rest havent got a leaky agent?
