I’m still amazed that blokes young and old celebrate and laud potential signings that haven’t signed!

Don’t get me wrong I’ll have a look at comments about them, video clips,  transfer gossip snippets on Twitter. But to take it that step further and start putting them in our starting 11 when they haven’t signed seems crackers to me.

You end up becoming disappointed that a fella you hadn’t heard of a week ago isn’t signing or start backtracking that it’s probably just as well he didn’t sign!!

Wait till the scarf is being held above his head!

It’s because BN keeps informing us that the deal is more or less done and we awaiting work permits

Not sure it's that folk are celebrating too soon, more disappointment that primary targets haven't been successful.

Doesn't matter who they are, so long as the coaching team have identified them.

But, most folk have no idea if they are 'primary targets'

Correct.

Transfer windows have and always will be, smokescreens, ITK claims, counter claims, exclusives, hype, planted leaks from official sources, unofficial leaks.

Even more so in this age of social media.

Which all means we have little idea of the truth….. until he’s holding up a scarf at the stadium!

I’ll read what I want. See you outside the club shop 😉

But if they keep getting your hopes up about us signing someone, which then makes you angry/upset when we don't sign them - why bother investing in the speculation? There's nothing you can do about it. Why would you do that to yourself?

Never a truer word.

That said, in the absence of actually being able to get the genuine Wanderers fix, all this checking players out and imagining what the team would look like temporarily eases the cravings.

Banking on them before they've actually signed is - as you say - bonkers.

But not as bad as having an entire thread "challengers next season" where in addition to not knowing what our team will be, we have absolutely no idea what the other teams will be. That's just doubling down on on the madness :)

Mutleys last post made me chuckle tbh, the chaotic commitment to trolling in a more bizarre fashion each post is quite something

It’ll get old soon enough tho

You reckon they will make offers first for those who aren't primary targets?

I don't.

The two lads for rwb for example would both be primary targets.

we have no idea how many offers have been made

its best not to get worked up about it

I fell for the Baccus line which came out of Scotland on Monday.

I'll revert to my usual PSG 'Picture, Shirt/Scarf, Grin' again.

An admirable thing in most of our dealings in Evatt/Markham time is that generally the lid is kept on until the last moments.

think it's fairly obvious that Baccus, Wilson and Flick were primary targets and we tried to sign them before we jetted off to Portugal

the dissapointment comes for me from the fact that you know Evatt and Markham will have spent a lot of time figuring out who to go for, and with the aim being promotion, these players would presumably were targetted to play a part in that

so they'll be dissapointed too no doubt as well

they'll have other options of course

but anyone else signed in those positions now are unlikely to have been our first choice

Wouldn’t be surprised if we ended up back in for one or both of them later down the line, either in summer or January.

Might just be that we’ve cooled our interest due to late demands that anre unreasonable and so we’re just showing we won’t be held to ransom.

If not, I’m sure there’s other viable options who can come in. There’s plenty of talent to go around.

We can only speculate, but if the medicals weren't quite right, or the wage demands changed or the structuring of the deal wasn't suitable to us, then we're right not to sign them.

Although we want players to be ours and owned by the club, the loan market hasn't been mentioned yet. Primary targets or not, there may be better players at RWB and DM available on loan.  Still think we may get a young Prem striker on loan as well.
