Who knows lusty but both wages and transfer fees seem to get more realistic the closer to the windows end so let’s hope if nothing else turns up in the meantime that happens with Wilson and Baccus because I suspect neither club will want to lose either player for nothing if their contracts run down? 😉

St Mirren accepted our offer but apparently Baccus baulked at the wage offer

Doesn't matter St Mirren want really, if Baccus chooses to see his contact out and go for higher wages on a free, that's up to him

Yes, fair play to the lad if he thinks he’s worth more than we’re offering and I suspect that as an Australia international there’ll be plenty takers for him when his current deal does run down.

Alfie May signed for Charlton .

Never an Evatt-type player though - hasn't got the engine or workrate - unlike Baccus who'd be perfect alongside Demps.

That’s utter bollocks about the work rate

easy option for him I guess closer to home

Think he would have been very suited to our style of play but until this year I thought he was about 24.

At 30 years old it would put me off

He was Gillingham bound before Charlton stepped in, so it would appear that the move was geography based.

Accorcing to yheir own website St. Mirren's best paid player last season was on £2,500 pw basic.

Baccus was on £800pw - £41,600 pa.

Not difficult to better that tbh.

He'd not be allowed to post on here earning that little!

My thought exactly. Literally wouldn't get out of bed for that.

If all Bacchus was interested in was the money well good riddance we have had enough of those types of players over the years Keith Andrews being 1 .

Nowt like overreacting is there.

Money, clearly, isn't the be-all & end-all to him.or he wouldn't currently be on £41,600. But he's entitled to seek a decent wedge for any move he makes  Shirley ?

Only estimating, but a quality player in League 1, I'd guess might be looking at a few thousand a week?

Nah, Kieran Lee been one of our best players under evatt

If he keeps in shape he'd fit in just fine in L1

With respect, that logic says Dan and Vic are better signings than May.  Surely goal potential in the next year or 2 is more important than having a team of U25s.

Is May actually that good or just a decent player in a shit team?

Personally, I'd rather get 1 or 2 championship quality players we'd not need to replace when we go up but cost a bit more.

Not talking stupid money, just a touch of extra quality than you get from people who have bobbled about the lower leagues all their career.

JDB and Lee types but with a few less miles on the clock

May is a decent player at L1 level, scores good goals, regularly - not sure its relevant how good the rest of the team are?

Agreed though some JDB, Lee, Gary O'Neill, Bridcutt, Daryl Murphy types with a bit of class and know how wouldn't go amiss.  Easier said than done though, why would they want to drop into L1 and probably take a wage cut?

Bridcutt wasn’t that good and released by Blackpool

What’s a Daryl Murphy?

A fit JDB and Dion Charles playing off his should be more than good enough to have us pushing.

Pushing isn’t what the doctor ordered, top 2 is the target… yes we’ve time & money to improve the squad and improve it we must.

"A fit" JDB - there lies the risk

Kieron Lee will be missed like hell. Different class at this level.

Can see a couple of Prem youth types arriving and hopefully more Bradley-like than Shoretire.

This Baccus dunce had never been heard of before two weeks ago. Even after a world cup. World beater in a poor league. Sure there's better out there.

Alfie May sounds like he has streaks in his hair and wears diadora in San Antonio on 18-30's holidays. Best place for him is Charlton.

Alfie May sounds like he'd be an East end fruit and veg market stall owner

Lots of patter and banter with the cockney house wives, cheeky so and so

We need a replacement for Lee to play behind the strikers and. DM .

A fit JDB, plus an in-form Vic (assuming Burton levels of goal scoring) plus another 20 goals from Charles plus a young improving talent in Nlundulu should be more than enough goals wise.

However, only 1 of those is likely (Charles) and so there’s a big reliance on fitness and improvement from others. It’s a gamble, but with those 4 (and Jerome playing the Robbie Blake role) I don’t see how we add any more.
