July 10, 20233 yr I have heard that there were concerns around the Wilson medical, despite the press version. The payment structure may have been made to avert risk. I have no doubt that a fit Wison would have been a good addition to the team but one knock and it could have been an out for the season injury.

Hes employed by the club to make decisions on bringing in players to improve the clubs league position in accordance to sustainability. Not every signing works.
July 10, 20233 yr The BN article this morning said: "The Bolton boss has a plan in place to sign new players – with a right wing-back and at least one more central midfielder believed to be high on his list of targets." Then Iles quotes Evatt as saying: "“We have to be strong enough to move on and go to the next target. Chris (Markham) and his team have done incredible work and we know exactly what positions we want to fill and what both players look like." There's a clear implication that the objective is two, possibly three incoming - and despite both Toal and Johnston out for a while there's no rush to get another CB in. Absolutely no idea how good or bad Iles information is (it's been questionable at times in the past) but the article seems to imply that having to deal with clubs as well as players for the first time (instead of OOC players) is a new experience for the recruitment team - so we're just going to have to be patient and hope.
July 10, 20233 yr I’ve always believed that unless you either pay over the odds money or the players aren’t widely wanted you always have to wait for the better players and that’s what IE and CM are aiming at, the better players. Of course it takes time if you’re competing with other clubs as players will always hang back to see what offers come in, who wouldn’t if they know they’re in demand, so I’ve absolutely no problem with management taking time to get in the best players because quality is what we need and the wait will be worth it.
July 10, 20233 yr Rewind 12 months and there was uproar and blind panic when I mentioned Fossey wasn’t being done.. look how that turned out. we’ve tried to get the business done early, there’s obstacles that have appeared but that doesn’t mean the club has run out of ideas. let the concern / panic commence at the end of august when the windows shut eh
July 10, 20233 yr had 3 transfer rumours in Wilson baccus and flick ongoing for a week or so, now it’s total radio silence Wake me up in august when we’ve signed someone 😴

Or you're an obsessive "glass half full" type that wails and moans at the slightest opportunity. We wanted Baccus. We didn't get him, so all is not going to plan. I'm not about to condemn the club's whole progress because of it. I can't answer for 'people like me' I'm afraid.

July 10, 20233 yr Anyone not underwhelmed by our transfer this window must have started with very low expectations. But the window is open and work will be underway I would like to think we targeting players who may have hopes of playing Championship so won't be rushing to sign at L1 level yet. Add in loans from higher up the ladder I am sure we will see 3 or 4 new faces before window closes.

July 10, 20233 yr Not halfway through July. Can't say that I'm overly arsed. Would have even nice to have players in, but meh- the Ashes are still on.
July 10, 20233 yr I think we need two further midfielders and a right wing back. It'll depend how long Toal and Johnston are out for in terms of whether we need a loan central defender. I don't think we should take risks there. If there's any chance of any length of time without the pair of them we need a loan. It's unbelievable bad luck that we're already struggling with the pair of them.

We’ve got Santos Jones and Iredale for back three with Forrester and MJ back up currently with those two out. Providing John stays there’s two competing for left wing back. Sadlier played right wing back Saturday in second half so currently he’s backup on right side. I’d perhaps not rush into using a loan on centre half, I’d be looking at getting midfield sorted first.

We've got rid of our 2 quickest forwards in Kachunga and the lad who went to St. Pauli. So unless we get get someone pacy, lots of 1-0s both ways next season. A bit like last season in the goals department.

No reason why we couldn't have both. .... if we don't keep up to the right numbers in that position I'll tell you what will happen. Wigan will have their usual stroke of luck in the lead up to when we play them in August when we lose another centre back or two and we're threadbare there. It's not a position you can gamble with.
July 10, 20233 yr Shrews captain leahy handed in transfer request. 9 goals from midfield last season, worth a punt !! Anybody remember him standing out against us ?
