Sadlier is not good enough, he flatters in some games but simply does not do enough. We need to move onto better than him.

The midfield bastard is more a Karl Henry than Roy Keane. Just a bit more game sense than current lot have shown , a real leader that they could all learn from.

We just want a CM who can sit in front of our defence tackle and get stuck in against the bully boy tactics of some of our opposition .

Very happy with CMG by the way. If he hits the ground running then he’ll be in to either replace one of the attacking midfielders or he’ll get the slot next to Charles.

As much as he could probably do a job there, it would be a big snub to Dan, Vic, Jerome and JDB if, when fit, they are overlooked for a "midfielder".  And not a great look for IEs recruitment.

CMG seems to have far more to his game to be restricted to waiting for our midfield to create (rare) chances.  I'm hoping he can have a big impact on the pace and direction of our attacks from a bit deeper and be one of the creators, as well as shooting from 20 yards or bursting into the box.

According to Wiki, he's a winger!  That needs to be updated because if that's true he can forget about starting games 😆

Difficult to argue with that about Sadlier given we've hardly seen him start games, but he seems to be judged more harshly than others.  OK he doesn't do enough - not disagreeing - but which of our current attackers bar Charles and Dempsey does "enough" on a fairly regular basis?  I don't think the bar is set very high currently.

he’s also been played all over the place, not really had a consistent run. Feel a bit for him to be honest.

He isnt defensively solid, nor athletic enough to be a starting WB. He isnt effective enough at striker. Not really been given much of a chance in CAM.

I like him as an impact sub for LWB, gives that side a different dimension, with someone cutting inside rather than hugging the touchline. But seems a waste of a squad place to just have him as that, and emergency cover for the other positions.

See for me, there is too much emphasis on inverted wingers.

Doesn't suit everyone, and there's nothing wrong with a wide man getting past his man and pulling a cross back. Really difficult to defend against.

Similarly with a quality, early cross for strikers to attack. Beckham was a genius at it.

Decent shout that.

Surely IE wouldn’t risk playing Gomez from the start, he hasn’t played a single minute of pre season football at Luton and I can’t see Evatt risking a thigh or calf strain with the season so close. More likely he’ll come on for the last 15 or 20 minutes with a bit longer against the Baggies to move him up gradually?

Yeah as the norm,  you ideally want to start the first xi in the last friendly before season, so the baggies game should give us more of an idea what the plan is.

Wouldnt surprise me if toal got some minutes tonight and Saturday,  hope the lad does.

I don't think our style suits a "big, hard bastard", they'd have to have more to their game than just that

That's the point of spending money on an upgrade isn't it? MJ could tackle and his passing wasn't that bad, but he lacked mobility and offered nothing as a goal threat so if we can find someone who can cover more ground, win back possession and then do something positive with it - and maybe pop up with the odd goal as Viera and Keane etc did we'd be on to a winner in my book.

I agree and a wingback system is generally more suited to that more traditional approach. But when Sadlier comes on after 60-70 mins and they’ve been defending that traditional cross for the whole game, it gives them something different to think about. But as I say, it’s a bit of a waste to only use him as that.

I wouldn’t be opposed to him being back up to Mendes Gomes in the 10

Fair points.

I certainly don't think the left suits him.

Who is next through the door; any rumours?

Ross Sykes is the only other rumour I’ve heard

Bless you

But if you are on about the Australian who none of us had heard of up till 4 weeks ago them please just let it go ffs.

RE Sadlier. He has nine goals in all competitions for us, which must make his goals to minutes ratio excellent. Especially when you consider he’s probably spent at least half of those minutes at wing back.

Now, does that mean his goals contribution is masking his actual ability (for those people clamouring for his inclusion), or we should give him more of a chance as he clearly knows where the net is? I honestly can’t make my mind up on him.

See both him and DJ have relinquished the 7 & 3 shirts respectively, if that is an indicator on their futures. It certainly rings alarm bells for John.

Still think there's more horse trading in both directions to come before this window is out.

Sadlier lost his #7 shirt and Mendes Gomes has taken it. He’s now 29 which was Victor.

Victor has moved to #14 which was previously Iredale

Iredale has taken #3 which was declan John

John is now #25

Think that’s all the number changes

make of that what you will,

looks like we’ve retired Kachungas #24 shirt out of #respect

I reckon he's OK. However, it's down to the manager, and I'd he doesn't fit for whatever reason, then it makes sense to let him go elsewhere.

Thomason #4 instead of #25

Crikey, I thought they had no money??

How many players in a squad if it’s 23 then some will have to leave so we can bring new players in . If Johnstone out for the season then that’s 1 place available .

No Saddlier or John in the squad tonight despite only 6 outfield players named amongst the subs compared with 12 from Everton

Reckon those two are off

Thomason was 25, now has 4 instead of MJ
