We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

I’d be very surprised if Baxter, Jones, Santos, Dempsey and Charles don’t start.

The rest is all debatable as far as I’m concerned. Thomason, Williams & Dacres-Cogley for their decent pre-seasons must be in with a shout.

Then I would think Iredale & Morley before the newbies for the first games. Toals not started one pre-season game yet has he? So he’ll be eased in.

If those start above, that would just leave one more forward - take your pick we’ve got loads now!

Very happy with CMG by the way. If he hits the ground running then he’ll be in to either replace one of the attacking midfielders or he’ll get the slot next to Charles.

I reckon Traff's got more chance of starting against Lincoln than Declan John.

😂

I reckon there’s 8 of those on that player map who may not start!

Most likely lineup for me on matchday 1

Maybe Iredale for Ashworth

Can Ashworth do WB?

Yeah but think Evatt said LCB would be easier for him to start with until he can learn the LWB role better

More like it I think.

If this defensive midfielder is signed then he replaces Morley-  who I think is clinging on to a starting berth, just hope he has come on a bit from last season.

Williams is a tricky one, when he signed I never read a bad word against him from hull fans but he has only ever shown glimpses for us.  Maybe he has now had more time to learn that position and will come out and shock us all.  Hope the lad does.   Ps I thought he was a mute until the other day when I heard him speak for the first time, he seems quite than Kieran Lee was.

I still expect a couple of high potential, young, loanees from the Citeh, Liverpool, Stretford type sources.

Not sure where they'll fit in mind.

Think we’re also in the market for a CDM, big hard bastard would do nicely.

He's mainly played LWB and getting forward is his great strength according to Baggies. Not got lightning pace but is technically gifted, can beat a player, puts in a great ball and can shoot allegedly.

I would love that but we'll have to make do with Thomason until we get one and TBF he's looked good in pre-season albeit in a more forward role against the lower league opposition we've played so far.

Maybe our limited spending so far is because we've got the next Patrick Viera/Roy Keane/Claude Makelele in our sights?

Probably better suited for away  games.

Trouble is these players, typically, are older, more experienced & not shiny young things full of potential.

I don't think Evatt goes for that type of player

Really? I'd have thought he'd love a player that can break up attacks and get us moving forward - especially since MJ moved on. An MJ upgrade would be perfect I'd have thought.

I wouldn't have MJ down as a "big, hard bastard" DCM

I don’t see thomason as that type, he’s not even remotely in that mould.

Think the days of " big hard" midfielders, are well gone. When players are regulaly booked now for challenges that wouldn't have been a foul a few years back.

I don't think our style suits a "big, hard bastard", they'd have to have more to their game than just that

A Sam Morsey type

MJ was a hard bastard relative to the rest of our midfielders but relative to the rest of the division was probably pretty standard.

My overwhelming memories of him are sliding tackles and getting stuck in, with a few nice long diags sprinkled here and there.

Thomason I don’t really recall making tackles in the same way. He’s a bit of an enigma. Always seems to play decent but never excellently. Keeps things neat and tidy mostly and had a few wayward shots.

Could definitely do with a bit more aggression in midfield without compromising on technical ability too much. Someone like Ben Pearson but more affordable would be ideal. Spearing had a bit of that to him.

Happy to sign Mendes Gomes but worry that if he gets injured we will miss his directness and creativity and struggle to break some teams down. Maybe Sadlier can be the #10 first reserve, he has a bit of that “create something from nothing” about him.

If not then maybe a RWB with creativity would be our next best option. Kane Wilson looked to be that but obviously will need to look elsewhere now.
