We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

  • Like when we went up from league 2, we needed tried and tested players from that specific division/level to deal with the task in hand. Doyle and Sarcs etc. We need exactly the same in this divis

Tony Dunn, Brian Kidd. Possibly Willie Morgan.

Cahill by a different definition.

All Willie Morgan won at Man Utd was the 2nd Division.

Well he only called out the Qatari regime when it was en vogue and not when he was being paid to do a job by Al Jazeera

He's definitely a style over substance type of a person for me

Loves to be seen as saying the right thing without putting too much thought into what he's saying

For anyone wondering as I didn't know, he worked for Al Jazeera (part funded by Qatar) sports between 2009-2013.

He keeps arguing for an appeals system in football. It's a fucking daft idea.

I did say "possibly".

That bbc broadcast from Qatar was piss funny. You had them lining their pockets while being on their high horse tryna look dead somber. Never forget Alex Scott stood there with a armband on :D

He was a big advocate for VAR as well

He Won 2 CL Medals

I did double check his honours list before posting and saw he was credited with two

One v Valencia which he started so fair enough

But the other was v Leverkusen when Zidane scored that screamer

Though he wasn't even on the bench that night so not sure why it's listed for him, wiki says he appeared in 2 cl games that season

Suppose it's a squad game

Gary Neville has no excuses. At least Lineker worked for Qatar before they built the 2022 WC on slave labour.

The same Alex Scott previously photographed sunning herself whilst on holiday there.

I have some sympathy for them: they're entitled to earn a living, and who knows, such events and visitors may ultimately help change the human rights situation there, but simply don't preach and prostitute themselves in the meantime.

I'd be inclined to go a bit further than the comments made at the end of this - but I have to declare an interest as I worked on building Doha in the 70s when it was a one horse town and not at all dissimilar to the Wild West - and I met a lot of Qataris who like every other nation had it's good 'uns and bad 'uns.

I had >120 Filipino workers and they were a great bunch, and lived in a crescent of the same design as those in Hulme, worked hard, ate well and were very happy with good social lives and earning 8x the wage they would have received in the Phillipines - which they invariably sent back to their families. TBF not all immigrant workers were treated so well but the vast majority were.

The faux indignation of the British media about human and workers rights and conditions around the time of the WC ground my gears a fair bit given that the UK has an appalling record - the dead Chinese in Morecambe Bay, the house slaves in London, the seasonal crop pickers locked away in Lincolnshire without pay to cite just a few examples.

People in glass houses etc etc....

Can echo these sentiments to an extent.

Been to Qatar numerous times and found it to be a hospitable and welcoming place. Some question marks for sure, but we make this assumption in the West that our way is the right way when, in reality, we've plenty issues of our own to sort before making moral judgments on others.

The country wasn't really a country until the 1950's (i'll need to fact check that date), so how on earth we expect them to view the world as we do I don't know.

Don't mind Ian Hislop normally, but he irritated me on that clip. Hasn't been to Qatar as far as i am aware, and went for the easy digs against a bloke who clearly (and weirdly) hadn't taken the time to consider the answer should he be pushed on it.

Anyway, this is the transfer thread and we only signed 3 players this window. Boooo

daily mail i know

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-11479113/Gary-Lineker-pocketed-whopping-1-6million-working-Qatars-state-broadcaster.html

but he worked for them for nearly 2 years after they "won" the bid, and provided with 5 star accomodation and first class flights

plus his rants went beyond the WC and was on about gay and womens rights too and everything else deemed backwards about the place

maybe this is the start of my descent into gammon, but he's a twat and full of shit
