He’d made that pretty clear but I thought the idea was for him to move back home to the London area? To be fair though, if he gets properly fit and is allowed to be just a central defender he’d be an asset for a middling Championship or top end L1 club but for various reasons he’d run his course here. TroySwoosh Posted May 15 Posted May 15 Think he'll do well, he went from 'not a footballer' in his first games ( I remember laughing at one point) to looking like a 5 million pound player, captaincy/Evatts instructions/injuries ruined it, someone will be getting a very good centre back for free Quote

He's never played above our level & I'll be stunned if he's up to it now. He's now a fully absorbed tippy-tappy & I don't see how he retreats from it. The long-term recovery from his fitness problems is unlikely too. I also believe he long ago agreed a deal with his future club ... whoever that is. Quote

kent_white Posted May 16 Posted May 16 Rico hasn't been the same player since he had that hospitalisation with a respiratory illness. I wish him well though. Quote

Decent spending in league 2 of course, but in comparison to ourselves and no doubt others, it is small. Dunno this years spend, but I think it's reasonable to say their spending has been seen better value for money than ours. The majority of their spending goes on their wage bill, which may even be higher than ours. To say they only get under 10,000 at home and are a relatively small club, I would say is quite significant. They gave Sarcevic a salary increase when they took him from us, they were in the National League, us in League One. Agree though, they have definitely spent their money better than us. That's why they lost all that money. As long as the owner is covering it, they're fine. I note though that it is in the form of new shares. Not sure that that is the same as our Swiss benefactors, but someone else will know more. Quote

As SS is now doing for us, those other clubs will presumably do their due diligence on him regarding availability to be on the pitch. In Santos case it's steadily diminished over the years, from playing every game in 2020/21 to just 25 appearances this term. His future might be more likely ironed out after the play offs, when a few clubs who might think about him will know what league they're in. Wycombe might see him doing a job for them in our league, though one of Charlton or Orient might too, whichever loses. Quote

What’s the alternative give him a better contract pay rise for a player who as spent the last couple of seasons with injury problems and last season sulking . Then freeing up only 5 places for a rebuild . He as shown no inclination he wanted to be here anyway Quote

I suppose that's why we might rue it- should he (unlikely) manage to get back to the player he was. Quote
ianofcleveleys Posted May 16 Posted May 16 You wonder how some of these are getting round FFP (I don't profess to know the technicalities of it), with the wadded owners propping it up big time while in Wycombe's case they get 4-5k on Quote

I would imagine pretty much every club has someone with wealth propping them up to an extent. As posters have said, FFP (or whatever iteration it has in L1) is far less stringent than leagues above. Spend the dosh now whilst you can I suppose. Quote
