Still a fair bit of speculation mainly about loanees, notably young Charlie McNeill from United who is a goal machine so it would never become permanent and Adam Idah from Norwich which would be dependent on Norwich signing another striker. McNeill would be better of the two for us IMO as he and Charles together would run riot - but it's all speculation.

Tyler Smith could be a permanent signing but would be expensive and Hull rate him - as Norwich rate Idah.

And that's the problem. Finding quality within our budget is going to be tricky.

It's going to be "exciting" and like you I'd like to see a permanent signing but it will all come down to the finances.

Totally agree we don’t need another loan sign somebody permanent.

The average player salary in the Championship is >£35k/wk and generally it's more for strikers. That average is 5 or 6 times the League 1 average. If we're looking for a Championship quality striker (are we?) to help us get promoted and then be good enough to hack it when we get there, it ain't going to be cheap and the usual options are loanees, foreign players, players at the end of their careers, injury risks or prospects for development rather than the "ready-made proven striker" who already plays regularly.

Our budget is indeed a big unknown and that's because our finances haven't been on display although we know some shares were sold and we know we have had decent gate/merch income for the division but there is a fair bit of mystery surrounding our ownership. For example, last year, FV published summary statements to 2020 which included nearly 400k shares owned by UK FF Nominees Ltd (now dormant)  a subsidiary of UK FF Topco Ltd which is the gateway to a web of holdings and investment companies. Nominees handled the Government Covid "loans" but anyhoo their recent statements say they no longer have shares so it will be interesting to see what the 2021 statements say and even then we won't have up to date info as to who actually owns us and what investment is available. Do the Government still have an 8% stake?

You're right though - we really have no idea what's going on behind the scenes or how it will affect player budget - but we do know that to get to the next level ain't cheap and requires some creativity. So far, FV have provided solutions so there's no reason to doubt they won't do it again - but I'm not expecting miracles.

Agree with all that but no DMBs. I really don’t want to develop their players or have anything to do with them. We have 91 other clubs to feed off. Still embarrassed about them pictures last week.

I’m not sure where you’ve plucked that figure from but there is absolutely no chance that the average championship wage is £35k per week.

Now that Villa and Fulham aren’t in there anymore I’d say that there won’t even be one club that has an average wage bill of £35k per week (broadly £45m per year), never mind the whole league which is now littered with smaller clubs like Luton, Rotherham, Preston, Coventry, Millwall etc. and bigger clubs that have hit financial trouble and will have rapidly culled any high earners (Cardiff, Birmingham, Reading etc.).

I’d be surprised if the actual average across all players at all clubs was £15k per week - not that this disproves that we are quite far away financially at the moment, just not in a different stratosphere to that league like your average implies.

I will take players from any club, however not to happy in being a nursery club, we should limit players incoming who are never going to sign permanently.. however thats difficult in league 1, we need Championship football asap.

Daily Mail reported it was 29k avg 2 years ago. There is an article from 888sport saying 35k but no idea how accurate they are. By the time you factor in appearance fees, loyalty bonuses etc it’s probably not a million miles away. Loyalty bonuses are crazy nowadays. 
 

Although agree that some of the bigger clubs have reigned in their spending or are now back in the prem.

Fair enough - I’ve just found that 888 article, it reads as though it was written by a kid on work experience from college and the numbers make even less sense. It claims that the Championship top earner is on £68k - considering there are 500-600 players in the Championship if the top earner isn’t even on twice the apparent average then it doesn’t make sense to me.

It’s all guesswork and nobody really knows, but looking through the list of teams in that league there are at least 12 teams (half the league) in which I’d be surprised if they have even one player on £35k per week.

We all have our things that push our buttons. I’m the same with Sharp, Vodafone etc. was offered cheap illness insurance by Aig but when they couldn’t confirm my £2 a month May go to Gary Neville I had to bail out.
