May 30, 20233 yr Quite frankly Connell is the best player we've produced for years and any criticism is borne out of bitterness of how he left He has also played for us at a higher level than Morley. Even in a dogshit Parky team he was a rare bright spark. Edited May 30, 20233 yr by jmjhb
May 30, 20233 yr Morley has potential but he has gone 'missing' in so many games this season I've forgotten he was on the pitch at times.

Even in a dogshit Parky team he was a rare bright spark. It’s hardly a high bar, in my opinion he’s no better than Morley and not as good as Dempsey. Hope he has a good career, hope we look back in 18 months and we’ve moved forward sufficiently from thinking Connell is good enough for BWFC.
May 30, 20233 yr Lets be honest, while thomason gets a kick, theres def room for connell in our squad

May 30, 20233 yr I wish him no ill, i just dont get how somebody so head down and stiff in his movement, ever makes it Connells at a different level Seems a fair comparison as neither has a right foot

And that’s before we hopefully invest in more quality.
May 30, 20233 yr I quite like Connell tbh. He's busy, sits deep and pulls the strings . I actually think he'd compliment our team massively. He's one of them that if it came to it you'd rather him be whipping shots in from outside the box compared to a 10 yard one on one. As per play off final. But he's deffo a player. For me, better than Morley...would Barnsley do a straight up swap?? I don't reckon so. And a left footer in the middle. Makes a diff. League 1 with Barnsley definitely won't be his ceiling. May 30, 20233 yr Thomason has gone backwards IMO. Playing pretty well earlier in the season pre-injury, but was poor at the back end .
May 31, 20233 yr Connell has gone we move on as for Thomason not a first teamer for me but keep as a squad player

Exactly, you can’t seriously compare Barnsley with Wanderers. Of course you also have to take into account that this is still also largely a rugby area with the likes of Wakefield and Castleford only a few miles away. I take my granddaughter to football practise at the local First Kick and not one has a Barnsley kit, mainly Wednesday, Blades or England so the competition is pretty fierce, especially now with those two both doing well.

Does anyone think we're tiny compared to Derby County and expect that our all good players really want to go and play for them? Nobody’s saying they’re tiny but if you take out the Wendies, Derby, Ipswich and Wanderers away followings it wouldn’t be anywhere near 14k average. Of course we’re smaller that Derby and I’ve no doubt if players were offered the chance to go there they would. That’s the nature of the game.

Consensus on here pre play off SF was that we wouldn’t take many more than 20k. In our recent history and current standing we are very similar to Barnsley whether we like it or not.

You're up there with Horwich on your, tbh almost DESIRE, to see him fail. Your nailed your colours to that made ages ago & are unwilling to give the lad a break. No, he's not Foden or Maddison. Probably never Premiership, but jeez nan.

I love the lad, his attitude is everything you’d want from a lad who’s come up the hard way, done the hard yards, wonderful attitude and clearly a top lad, my view is that he’s not got enough to make it with a progressive BWFC. I’ve not a clue how you have deduced I have a DESIRE for him to fail…I’d love nothing more to be proven wrong. Edited May 31, 20233 yr by Mounts Kipper

I’m not disputing that on very recent history and current standing but I see us moving up much further than Barnsley. No doubt the tykes are a solid Championship club but I think that’s their limit whereas it isn’t ours.

Without serious investment we will not be getting above that any time soon.

I think I agree. 5th in L1 last season, I reckon under the current set-up, we've only got about 20 league positions at most that we can improve. 9th/10th in the Championship is probably the current ceiling, I don't think FV have the financial clout for more.

The post I was quoting literally said they were tiny compared to us. Did Wednesday, Derby, Ipswich etc. not bring any away fans to the UniBol?

Indeed. Reality check needed by some on here. Half the Prem league teams have billionaire owners. We could be a Luton or Burnley but we are a long way off that at the moment.

Fair point and of course they did but without them we’d still have much larger attendances than Barnsley will ever get. There just isn’t the potential for Barnsley that there is with Wanderers is what I’m getting at.

Derby aren't a bigger club than us, we are similar sized, they average bigger crowds which isn't a shock considering our location and them being a city. However we have spent much more years in the top flight and premier league and have won 4 major trophies to their 3.

Just checked the last 10 seasons and we average a good 4k more than them bearing in mind in that period they’ve played 2 more seasons in the championship than us I won’t even start on away support
