miamiwhite Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 you're getting as bad as Mounts and Miami Hang on tiger, Don't drag me into this as I've been giving proven facts regardless of colour, race etc. And for the record, I see this attack as a cowardly and totally uncalled for act which will stoke tensions even further. It's a sad day when we're seeing innocent folk getting murdered on our streets. I honestly wish we could find a way to solve it,but it's a hard mission to find a solution. I seriously pray there's no more attacks whatsoever. Quote
madthatter Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 (edited) He actually said 'As I look ahead, I am filled with foreboding; like the Roman, I seem to see "the River Tiber foaming with much blood."' And Nostradamus predicted a fire beneath the sea, which happened . . . oooooh scary What was the context of Powell's speech? Was it just referring to immigration or culture or both? What's most frustrating is that it doesn't take a genius to suggest problems will occur when cultures collide; knowing that, more should have been done in the last half century to negate these effects, as much as possible. All too easy to snigger and call him, or others, 'daft racists' etc etc Edited June 19, 2017 by madthatter Quote

miamiwhite Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 why does the jewish press describe it as anti israel day it is a protest against the oppression of muslims around the world, not just those being shot and bombed by israel intersting that of the six speakers listed at the event, at least 3 are jews fwiw the police currently have their hands full and id have no problem with it being postponed It's an anti Israel and Zionist rally to be precise and pedantic. Stems back to 1979 when the Ayatollah called for the Palestinians to oppose Israel's existence.....i.e Death to Israel as displayed on many flags. Other factors/factions have obviously come into play over the years, but it is predominantly an hate march to commerate the day of the Ayatollah's infamous speech in 1979. Quote
MalcolmW Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 I wasn't born at the time, and haven't ever heard the speech, but is it true he never actually coined the phrase "rivers of blood" at all - I think I heard this recently so it might not be true The was quoting Virgil. It was an ad lib to his (vetted) speech. There was plenty else in the speech about the impact on his Wolverhampton constituents and a specific comment about immigrant workers being allowed (arranged) marriages with women they had never met to found new families populating this country. Casino Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Since the Tories and sections of the media tried to blame Gordon Brown and Labour for the banking crisis. I'd say since then the precedent for blaming a government for anything that occurs on "its watch" has largely been set. While unreasonable to blame Brown for the crisis,it's not unreasonable to point out we could have been in a much better place to deal with it, if the labour government hadn't spent all the money Ring any bells Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Didn't I read the other day that the tories had promised to match Labour's spending commitments pound for pound? Not heard that, but I suppose its possible depending upon ho much the government 'earns' from its taxation etc. Quote
MalcolmW Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 (edited) So who radicalised this taff then? Last I heard Weston-Super-Mare was in England. It has produced some oddballs, though, John Cleese and Jeffrey Archer spring to mind. Weren't they just filming for Hollyoaks? Edited June 19, 2017 by MalcolmW Quote
RoadRunnerFan Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Didn't I read the other day that the tories had promised to match Labour's spending commitments pound for pound? Yes, the likes of Redwood were also calling for more deregulation of the financial sector. Quote
birch-chorley Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Think I posted the link a few weeks ago In 2005 the Conservative manifesto had 6 key points, 2 of which were Better discipline in schools Cleaner hospitals Fock all about regulating banks or saving money for a rainy day Anyroad it's here again FYI.... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs/11_04_05_conservative_manifesto.pdf Quote

Should never have been allowed, imo. Folk took the piss - which they would . . . especially given the standard of life where they came from Quote

Essentially the crisis would have been worse under a Tory government in that regard. He also supported Labour's spending plans. Nobody could foresee the huge bank bailout required inspire of the post event revisionist takes that have been offered. Quote

Guest Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Even Gordon Brown accepted some responsibilty, though http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13032013 Yes. But the point is Cameron wanted to deregulate further. It would have been worse. Blaming Labour was a nonsense. As nonsensical as blaming May for the terrorist attacks. I mean she has made decisions that may have contributed to difficulties amongst the emergency services but doesn't mean she is at fault. Quote
