Site Supporter fatolive Posted October 12, 2018 Site Supporter Share Posted October 12, 2018 On border issues, are there any issues with the Spain/ Gibraltar border/ check points? Lot made of the Ireland /NI border issue with good reason but was just wondering about if there’s a similar issue with Spain Gibraltar, which in itself will tell you what an exciting Friday night I’m having

royal white
Piers Morgan - Hi Jugs @GaryLineker - can we also replay the World Cup semi-final now we know more, with hindsight, about how Croatia will play? Gary linekar - We’ll get another go in 4 years, Tubs. However silly your analogy may be, though, if the winning side were deemed to have broken the laws of the game or cheated there would, of course, be a reversal of the result or a replay. Gary obviously forgot about the hand of god Edited October 12, 2018 by royal white

Seamless from what I have seen. The Spanish did shut it in 2003 for protection against some virus or other and back in the late 60's closed it for over a decade but reopened it in '82 for 'humanitarian' reasons (which was bollocks - they didn't want to look bad when the worlds eyes were on Spain for the World Cup). Aye, but is there any issues or potential issues there as a result of Brexit that could affect the seamless nature? Genuine question as I haven’t heard it mentioned or don’t know if it’s a different scenario to Ireland, but in theory it’s still a British border with the EU ? There’s nothing whatsoever to see here.

To be honest, the border issue (NI) is only so big a stumbling block because of fears of a return to the dark days. Plenty of players seem to be saying technology can continue and be enhanced to allow no hard border. Fortunately, Gibraltar doesn't seem to have a fair proportion of its population that hate each other to such an extent.

Think you misunderstand the border issue in Ireland to an extent, but, even so, it’s not the population within Gibraltar that would be a worry, but the fact that after Brexit it will be a border with the EU that currently doesn’t exist. i agree I dont think there’ll be any loons looking to cause issues within Gibraltar but may be issues getting stuff in and out maybe ? Members bolty58
Gib is not a worry from what I can see. Each time they have had a referendum on the subject, the Remain with Britain side usually scores in the high 90's percentage wise. Plenty in La Linea and its surrounds make a living from contraband tobacco and alcohol being shipped across the border by an endless loop of lads on scooters leaving with their legal limit of duty free stuff and reselling in Spain. Spain may try something in an opportunist way thinking that our eyes and ears may be elsewhere. It will be back to normal in no time flat. Besides the balance of trade in their favour, they know we don't fuck about from examples like the Falkland Islands

Cheers That’s what I was getting at, wasn’t aware if there was currently checks there now, if there is then that makes it a complete different scenario to Ireland and what I was trying to find out as it will just be continued as is there time will tell on the goods issue I suppose
