Not in isolation, no

I don't understand what you mean then. Are you saying activists think "If we do enough stunts, eventually the Government will change their policy to stop our stunts!"?

Not activists generally

The modus operandi of Just Stop Oil isn't to raise awareness of their cause - they know their actions are deeply unpopular and unlikely to win public support - it's to engage in repeated acts of civil disobedience / direct action in an effort to force the Government to give in to their demands

Don't take my word for it, take theirs:

https://juststopoil.org/

"As the disruptions grows what will the Government do? Concede to our demand, or crack down and arrest us all?"

"This is how civil resistance works: applying nonviolent pressure until we force change to happen."

I think you're taking that sentence a bit too literally, and disingenuously ignoring the words after it.

"It's how the Freedom Riders forced an end to segregated buses in 1961. It's how Martin Luther King won civil rights in Birmingham Alabama in 1963. It's how we'll win and force this criminal government to act on the unfolding climate disaster by stopping new oil and gas. No-one’s going to save us, we need to come together to do that for ourselves."

First thing these folks can do, is shut off there gas and electricity to there homes , when they do that I may listen to them. Also will need a get a horse to get around , cant use a car, train plane or a bike. other wise they can get to fuck.

I'm not sure why you think the rest of that quote invalidates my point

They are issuing a direct challenge to Government: either give in to our demands or we'll continue to escalate

It's not about raising awareness, and whether I or anyone else pays attention to them is neither here nor there when it comes to their strategy

Their aims are explicit, and explicitly stated - there's no other sense in which to take them

The fact they can't do that is one of the things they're campaigning about. I'm sure they would switch immediately if the available alternatives were being pushed by our Governments as hard as fossil fuels.

You won't have a long wait. There are none. But there are viable alternatives that require a LOT less.

Never said that, but we have to keep extracting it until we have everything else in place, and that will not be in my life time, it may not be in my kids life time, the big issue is we need a is replacement for plastics and its derivates. Also not a big issue with medicines and the hydo-carbons that are require there. So fuck all cars off , even electric, fuck off all cell phones computers, fuck off life saving medicines. Next tiem you need you window replaced go back to wood and cant have glass because you have to melt the fucker (hopefully green hydrogen will sort that one one given time).

It will all come in time but its will cost you in pound shillings and pence, to me it a small price to pay to to many it will not be.

So you pretty much agree with Just Stop Oil's objectives. Nobody (not even them) thinks we can just drop fossil fuel's overnight.

No because its in the name "just stop oil", if we did that we would be a third world country in less the 3 month. We are never going to stop using oil, we just need to use it at a slower pace, too much of our lives in involve oil, most of which a lot of people have no fucking idea and in my opinion lays the problem, I tell people I know that go on about it to go thought there house and place everything that as oil or a derivatives of oil a there dinning room table and get back to me and most people a shocked how intertwined our lives are with oil, even for renewables you still need oil

Again, their objective isn't for us to entirely stop using oil and all it's by-products overnight. It's to stop the UK government licensing NEW fossil fuel projects.

Interesting with ULEZ, it seems to be a real issue with those who just hate Khan and won't vote for him anyway in blue tory heartlands (like Bromley, someone on the local FB groups is selling Say No To ULEZ gingerbread men christmas tree decs - bonkers) its becoming more of an extreme position now that folk have realised 95% of people don't have to do anything (and to be honest for the past three years no one was selling a second hand car without ULEZ compliant as a main selling point)

Also, lots of people are concerned about air quality, and hammering the point makes you look anti-green and anti-family when it's a concern for those who live near main roads for their little ones.

Basically, yes it'll cost some votes but the majority of these wouldn't be voting Labour anyway so it'd only make a difference if it was a close or maginal contest, which it doesn't appear to be.

Also, who came up with Safer with Susan? Fucking hell...
