Well done on your forward ordering, I hope your suppliers are agreeable and have given you good payment terms. One of the issues we have in the metal market is that a £16million "forward order" would have different implications, which I have discussed at length. Sincerely hope you get yours sorted pal, but can't see it happening now thanks to the added bonus of the new COVID strain disrupting logistics etc. Couldn't have come at a worst time for so many people. Could be a very grim winter ahead for everyone. Quote

It proves we can work together regardless of circumstances. Covid can fuck right off now, but I suppose it’s shown that things can be sorted with a good amount of common sense Quote

Spider Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 The UK without Scotland is unthinkable. Seriously. I'd happily give NI back to Dublin before watching the Scots go it alone. May as well get rid of the Welsh at the same time if we're going down this route. Quote

We had this discussion in the summer too re them. For the record, I've nothing against them going for it. What they need to do is work out how they're going to run their own country and finance it. The oil isn't doing it for them at present. Huge questions being asked about these issues if you research it thoroughly 🙄 Quote

Escobarp Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 Scotland’s biggest trading partner is the rest of the Uk. Almost 3 times more exports to uk than rest of the eu combined. Of those us exports England makes up the majority would it be hypocritical to sever those ties by the Scottish government under the guise of it being in the best interests of Scotland to be an independent country? Everyone had a pop at me (us) for not forward ordering - this is one of the situations that arise when demand is likely to peak because of a huge change in circumstances. Profiteering. Raw materials have indeed gone up - we increase our prices on 1/1/21 by 7% as a result. The other 13% is a very grey area. For a good while there has been criticism of China for its illegal dumping of cheap steel on the market. Presumably a rebalancing will be beneficial for others? Quote
Spider Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 It's the same old thing. A person is smart; people are stupid. Yes, they're a bit pissed off about Brexit, but that will pass in time. As intrinsically linked as we were to the EU, our links to Scotland are simply too strong to break. It would be a disaster on both sides. They're already independent enough anyway. We let them have their own football team, their own name. And squabbling aside, Scotland is fucking brilliant, as are it's people. They're every bit as British as the rest of us. Britain IS Scotland and vice versa. Quote

As a British manufacturer we abide by Kite Mark (British) standards. Which, in fairness, other British factories do too. We have to use the Czech stuff. Be ace if there was a UK manufacturer of it (we looked into it), but it appears the demand in the UK isn't high enough. Quote
