We could go tit for tat correct. But we aren’t and it would appear we are just trying to make the agreement work? But the EU were heralded by many. Quote

Are the EU hitting the same obstacles exporting their shellfish to us? Possibly, and maybe they're losing out on some business, and I'm not really that fussed, as I'd rather we just fucked all the fishermen off and sunk their boats and then leased our waters back to the EU.... However, I'd have thought that we export a shit load more shellfish than we import - so it affects us far, far more Quote

Certainly, I expect a trade war is the last thing we want, yet the EU cant be seen to be too flexible, in case it encourages other nations to think about opting out too. Quote

I think that's exactly it - if I was them, I'd be making everything as awkward as possible, it'll stop others thinking of doing the same. Is it the right thing to so, of course not, but it's all about self preservation. If we'd voted to stay in, and say France voted to leave, we'd be saying "fuck them, screw them into the floor" - it's just the way of business, and we can spout bollocks about blue passports and sovereignty all we want, this is pretty much just a large drawn out business contract at the end of the day. I'm sure it'll sort itself out in the next 5-10 years, then things will be OK< we just have this bumpy few years to deal with. As mentioned by others, some will prosper, and some will fail. Those who fail, like in any business, it's just tough shit really Quote

Sweep Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 @Spideryou might like this.... We have a customer making a certain product (sadly, I can't tell you what) but it's very "copper heavy" indeed - it's such a large part of their product, they find it's usually easier to bring it in themselves and then free issue to the fabricators, as it helps them control the costs. Anyway, we ship them a bit of product as well. They've just pushed back their orders for February, into March, as they're on complete line stop, due to lack of copper sheeting. Anyway, when he was telling me that he needed to reschedule his orders, I jokingly said that he should have planned ahead better and placed forward orders. He said he was sick of imbeciles (what a great word) suggesting that it was even an option for him Anyway, he reckons his usually comes from Poland or Spain.........I didn't know the Spanish did copper, and everything has ground to a halt as the factories he dealt with basically cancelled his orders and shipped into other EU countries, as it's too much hassle trying to get product to the UK. He's most perplexed, he's sourced product, but he's having to airfreight it in from somewhere in South America (I think) which has certainly driven the price up for him by a factor of 4 Quote

Tell him to just look at all the winners and he’ll soon feel much better. I can’t locate any winners personally but I reckon the Magnificent , erm, 5 can link him to loads of them. Ultimately, he's said they'll only have no production for a few weeks, but the price will be passed down to the end user......as it's ultimately "green technology" based, there is something amusingly splendid in the fact that a few hundred kilos of copper are now flying half way round the world to help us become more green 🙂 ..........sadly the customers are going to be paying a lot more for it in the short to medium term. They're, as an aside, currently looking to move all their manufacturing across to The Netherlands, who are offering huge incentives at the minute (free factories and low business rates etc) - the good thing is, if he moves, then he still has to buy my stuff, he's no choice in that a the minute so I won't miss out Quote
