Would she walk across the House if that happened?

Has anyone said how many MP’s are rebelling?

The proposals seem to have been met with muted approval in general.

It would be "interesting" if it happened, she does appear to be the most "Tory" of the Labour mob.

Home Secretary is an impossible job... Home Office needs breaking down

It is only once the specifics come out that ‘rebels’ will come out. There is already misinformation, such as jewellery confiscated at the border despite her specifically saying this was not going to happen.

The fact is that the current system is broken and pissing about at the edges won’t fix it. Hiding behind ‘it is not small boats but large yachts that divide this country’ does not deal with the problem that non genuine asylum seekers are coming to the country, to do this they are using dangerous routes and stopping genuine asylum seekers getting here safely. If you care about genuine asylum seekers surely getting safe routes and legal routes us what you want ?

Bits of it like the 20 year qualification seem tough but it needs to be tough to change things. I am yet to hear anything constructive from the rebels or Your Party about what they would do. Saying ‘refugees welcome here’ is fine and something I agree with but only if you can also stop the flow of trafficked people coming over. Good to hear she was also talking about people staying once their visa have expired.

I think the gov link above lays out the issues "perfectly"

the system is fucked, and cannot cope or move forward without major reform

it can't be left as it is

they have a plan

it sounds plausible to me

get on with it

Yep.

Exactly what many have been saying for a long time but were usually met with being labelled racist, not wanting brown faces, it's not a big deal, brainwashed GB news watchers etc etc.

main issue with the whole debate was if you moaned about it not working as is, you more often than not would get asked "what is your plan for sorting it out"

it wasn't for anyone on here to sort out

and now labour have come up with a plan

but it seems like not everyone in the party are up for it

so if they can't come up with a plan everyone agrees on

you've got fuck all chance

the point always was it can't continue like it is

at least you and the government are on the same page now

Plausible, yes.

Doable, almost certainly not.

If enough of her own backbenchers say no, then they're in the predicament they were in before.

Tories have offered support, but on the proviso that they toughen it.

Can't see that happening whatsoever, so that support probably wouldn't materialse.

The ministers know this.

A similar position to the last government, with plenty of their own mps not vested in a tough approach.

The cynic in me wonders if Starmer et al can see the writing is on the wall, and have essentially decided to move away from the loony left, and go back for their traditional "red-wall" voters.

Alternatively, as I said before when she made her first speech in the role, she is pitching her bit for a leadership bid.

Quite a clever move on her part either way,  though if she fails to made any headway with these measures, it will be hard for her to gain traction in a leadership contest.

It should also be noted that these measures won't be retrospective, so they would only come into force once the bill has passed, and a date announced.

That would also see a flood of crossings before the cut off date.

In essence, doing nothing about all those currently here, and arriving soon.

I would put the word out to the migrants that there is fuck all chance of staying in Britain if they do not have relevant documents saying who they are with D.,O.B. and country they are coming from. If they can provide this evidence they will be formally  assessed for refugee status, if they cannot provide the evidence they are sent back to France (a safe country) from where they have come from as soon as possible with no chance of accommodation or benefits here, except maybe a day or two in a detention centre

Spoken like a true English gentleman, who definitely has an elite grasp of the English language. Grammar is for wimps.

Now I’ve seen some Whataboutery on here before, & I’ve produced my fair share as well.

But this being your response to Farage saying he admires one of the worlds worst dictators & warmongers is something else mate 😁
