I don't think I've ever said it will be a breeze. I do think that juncker and others want to punish us for leaving their bureaucracy and I do think that we have to authentically hold open a "no deal" possibility against their bullying tactics.

I do think that all will be better off with a deal, but not be stiffed by them.

I hope we can reach a deal but i suspect it won't be one the Brexiteers hope for. After all this tough talk we are likely to end up with a fudged position. Seriously though, a No Deal scenario is not an option for us and should not be countenanced.

Imagine the boot was on the other foot and say France were trying to leave the EU.

Our brexiteers would screaming from the rooftops at juncker to stick the boot in and fuck em off.

Similar to when Scotland wanted to fuck off out of the UK?

Strong and stable leadership!

What, and the two terrorist sympathising communists would do better?

Give me a break.

Fanciful nonsense.

France would never try to leave. Their farmers wouldn't let them.

No comparison. Sturgeon will have another go at some stage. They should let the rest of the country vote in it. "Fuck off Scotland, we're all voting yes".

It's nothing like we are nett contributors to the EU whereas Scotland are takers from the UK.

What an odd opinion from someone who's most vocal about their support for The Conservative and Unionist Party.

He’s not a Tory. He thinks he is, but he’s not.

We have been here before with that exact same comment from someone else.

Quite simple really. I am enamoured by the unionist folk up there for various reasons, not least of which is family ties. If it was up to me, I would propose them all moving south of the border as a straight swap for some ethnic minority or other who are similarly ungrateful for what their particular handouts from England have been.

It is the nationalist ingrates who grate. I just don't think they're great if you gerrit.

Handouts like your DUP mates got?

Give me a break.

That wasn't the question.

The question was....

'The Conservative party just seem to be a party of reaction to me at the moment and piss poor reactions at that. What are they actually about?'

Maybe you can be the one to shed some light on it?

Any party in power is reactive as they have to respond to events whilst the opposition have the 20/20 vision that hindsight gives.

The main issue is that the Conservatives are quite clearly a divided party with a Cabinet that May cannot control. She herself is a moderate remainer politically, and yet her current stance is to throw red meat to the eurosceptics in her party to shore up her position, which leaves her undermined within her senior colleagues, not one of who has yet spelt out a coherent strategy for leaving the european union, regardless of the position of the EU who currently are waiting.

So you get yesterday's seemingly waste of a day with May running around trying to arrange deals for a pathway forward with none of her main Brexit negotiators in tow. What was said, is really still open to speculation. That's not a sign of a coherent party or consistent strategy.

She has to decide what her premiership is about, just being in power for the sake of it or actually try and tackle those in her party she knows are failing to make any real progress and give us the British public a clear idea on this.

And if one of the Brexit convenent starts wibbling on about 'jockeying for position...'

If you felt an atmospheric pressure drop - it'll be the collective intake of breath from 51% if the population on hearing the latest advice from the OECD.

They say

The OECD said the uncertainty of Brexit negotiations is likely to leave the UK without a free-trade agreement with the EU when we quit the bloc in March 2019

And I think most would agree that leaving with no deal would be really shit for us, and that won't happen. I think some sort of deal will be agreed......but,  I reckon we'll agree to stay in, and keep everything as it is, for an extended period of time, whilst an exit deal is negotiated. I personally wouldn't be surprised to hear that the 2 years period is extended to 5 or even 10 years, whilst we faff about negotiations. If this does happen, then we'll just end up not leaving.............

Edit: For what it's worth, I'm not sure I personally pay too much attention to a Paris based concern, who clearly would want us not to leave....but we do seem to be seeing more negative than positive press of late. YOu would think the "leave" mob would come out with some positive stuff, but they seem to have gone a  bit quiet of late

Brexit to hit the poorest hardest and in those areas that the Leave vote was highest.

“The United Kingdom is facing challenging times, with Brexit creating serious economic uncertainties that could stifle growth for years to come,” Mr Gurría said. “Maintaining the closest economic relationship with the European Union will be absolutely key, for the trade of goods and services as well as the movement of labour. Macroeconomic and fiscal policy can and should continue being used to support the economy, both during and after the exit negotiations. Future prosperity will depend on new reforms to improve job quality, boost labour productivity and ensure that the benefits are shared by all.”

Those bloody experts with their data and their economic forecasting.

I can't remember, do we trust experts or not?

The other big headline is the serious issues in rebalancing those areas of low productivity, which is made more difficult as these areas had the highest EU subsidies. Getting the North to start getting in line with other western european countries is crucial. The Northern Powerhouse was one strategy, flawed a bit but at least it was looking at it, leaving Europe at this time has made it much more difficult.

Nah - I'm betting there be loads of why we shouldn't trust they OECD as they are an instrument of the neoliberal conspiracy to keep the honest British worker down and paying loads of money to keep French farmers in red wine and cheese.

And they're based in Paris of course!

Lead by one Jose Angel Gurria - and we all know you can't trust Mexicans! Top Gear said!

If it wasn't for this sort of scaremongering, we've be currently sailing about the world trading Sport Direct goods to future UK colonies.

We made be bloodied, but we are unbowed to the whip hand of the OECD.

Rule Britannia, Cream Teas and Scones, the sound of willow on wood etc etc etc

Worth pointing out that the OECD is a worldwide organisation. We choose to be a member country, as do the US.

They publish reports on behalf of their members to provide independent economic evidence and policy advice.

They are not a "think tank" in the way the media is suggesting. They aren't a politically motivated organisation. The provide rigorous, evidence based economic advice internationally and also set many international standards.
