First Game Watching The Wanderers

Featured Replies

Yes. We then walked around the ground under the main stand (where we encountered a gang of Gooners who were quickly sorted) then into the North Stand to meet up with Chelsea's real nutjobs (they used to sing a song about some bloke "with a staircase nose". He was called Carruthers or Carstairs or similar). No trouble and we ended up on the piss with them.

If I remember rightly, our scorer in a 1-1 draw was Graham Rowe who had joined us from Blackpool as part of a threesome with Henry "Chopper" Mowbray and the great Peter Nicko? I am sure someone will be able to check this in case the memory is getting a bit vague.

Graham Rowe as scorer rings a bell - wasnt he a tall lanky defender??

Chopper Mowbray was brilliant - didnt he get sent off on his debut for us in a friendly game ??

Just gone down another route , I spotted the match programme on an old E Bay listing and it is a Rossendale programme which probably suggests them as the Home team, but other than that I'm at a loss m

1st September 1965 - Wednesday night 3-0 win vs Palace

Had to google it but remember the next game which was a 1-0 win over City who went on to win the league

Man City in Nov 65.

 that was my 2nd game as mentioned above

On the embankment with all those City and really didnt know what supporting a football team was all about but got the bug that day

wasn't there a episode of the sweeney when they filmed a scene near Stamford Bridge and bwfc was painted on the wall in the background

I have a feeling the BWFC was actually in Oxford and was painted by a lad I used to work with at Horwich Loco Works. We attended away games with the free rail passes.

Lad was called Conrad Hoy. I hear he's quite high up in Halifax Bank these days.

I heard the BWFC paint job was on Putney Bridge

Swansea 1984/5

Shit nil nil draw in Manny Road North but remember my Dad pissing his sides at the abuse being thrown at the Welsh twats bench

York at home. Aug 71. To this day I will always remember walking up the steps of the Manny Road stand and seeing the green pitch and being amazed having only ever seen footy on a black and white TV

Quite common in the seventies to have Matt BWFC sprayed on the away grounds throughout the country

Mat BWFC was every fucking where. Even half way up that mountain near Llandudno.

Remember Conrad was a rum lad, think he also liked Liverpool.

Can't actually remember my first game and either can my dad.

Seem to remember Southend at home being a big game, think we were chasing play offs with them and Cambridge or summet.

Same here. I can’t remember first home. A bit annoying really

It is, I have a screenshot of it somewhere, will dig it out. The Sweeney episode has John Hurt in it if anyone fancies watching it as a Sunday YouTube thing.

Seem to remember the evening news running a little article in which a holiday makers had sent in a photo of bwfc scratched into a pyramid or some such Egyptian monument.

Same here. I can’t remember first home. A bit annoying really

Same here too. I can remember the deariest of games in the 80s but I'm unsure on my first ever first team game sometime in the mid 70s. My old man took me to a few reserve games first and that's confused me, which was the actual first.

I know Hugh Curran was playing!

Bolton v Swindon. Think oghani scored and lost 2 1.. Was years later when got the bug though.. Sutton coldfield at home

Watching Garry Jones score his hat trick against man city in 1971, didnt know whether to watch the football or  the battle in the Lever  end

Bolton 3 Plymouth 0, sometime in March 1977. Remember Neil Whatmore and Garry Jones scored the goals between 'em, can't remember which one scored two!

Poss strange wasn't the right word

They just seemed a very random selection

Hairy muff mate. Thing is that I rely on my mate to drive me around to matches, so has to be a concensus on what matches we go to.

Thought the Legends Match would be a good opener as I'd get to see some of the best Bolton had to offer.

Bradford looked like a good match on paper as we were both in the top six at the time, but the game was spoilt by Bradford stopping the game every few minutes.

Derby match was disappointing too, chose this one as I'm from Nottingham and hoped Bolton would thrash them.

Villa was partly to break my away day duck, and visit one of the few original grounds still left in the football league, before they all disappear.
