League Cup 4th Round replay against Chelsea, Tues 8th Nov 1971.

 

Stood underneath the scoreboard on the embankment to get a good view. Almost 30,000 on a cold mid week game. Unfortunately lost 0-6

Bolton 3:1 Newcastle. 1982.

 

Stood on embankment. No memory of the game at all apart from Kevin Keegan played, an old man in front of me had a packet of biscuits and I really wanted one and we left the ground by walking out of the Lever End somehow.

1993-94 season at Burnden. Bolton 2 Bristol City 2.

 

For some reason I can remember the scores in my first 5 games.

 

The second was a 3-2 home defeat to Barnsley last game of 93-94 and then we went to 3 games the following year:

 

Bolton 3 v 0 Watford (Super John bagged a couple i think)

Bolton 2 v 0 Notts County

Bolton 1 v Tranmere (I'm sure it was Alan Thompson who scored)

I got taken to the odd game in the late 70's which I can't remember and not certain whether they were first team games or reserves.

 

The first league game (and away game) I can remember going to was Notts County away on the opening day of 1980/81 season - started as we meant to carry on. lost 2-1

FA cup V Southampton in 92.

 

Stood on the Paddock with my dad and grandad.

 

we moved to the Lever End when I started coming every week

A home game against Barnsley. Sure we won 2-1, but can't remember when.

Might have been the first home match of the season.

 

May well have been 5/2/82, though that seems a little late.

Lost 1-2 from the vague memory I have.

Home to Ipswich, 2002.

4-1, Bobic hat-trick, don’t remember much, except I was sat behind the goal, where the away fans are now located.

v Rotherham in the mid/early '80s...

 

Dunno the score, dunno where we stood/sat but I'm sure my dad and uncle were supping from glass pint pots at HT, It was fleeing and I was starving and they'd run out of food so I had to make do with a roll of Murray Mints.

 

Got dragged to Gillingham at home at a later date under similar circumstances - no wonder I didn't return until I was old enough to go alone...

That was the season I started (home to Bristol City, 0-2). That Notts County game was the first win I saw, and remember Thompson scoring v Tranmere then celebrating by sliding on his arse for what seemed to be half the length of the pitch in pouring rain. I doubt it was that extravagant.

 

One thing to note about that is Wikipedia says we played that game on 27th December 1994, and that we'd played Sunderland away the day before. I didn't think we were still doing games on consecutive days by then.

was in the Lever end, think my old man, who hadn't been for years, only got tickets thinking it'd be against Utd

 

following that, before end of that season went to league games v Stoke and Brentford

 

then started going on a regular basis the following season

 

first away game was Wolves in the cup in 93

By 1977 we had left Bolton, moved south & lived between Luton & St Albans. For my 1st ever Pro footy game my dad took me to:- Orient v Bolton Wanderers, 05 November 1977 ended 1 : 1.  Have no memory of why he chose that game, but saw more of Bolton away than at home, for years.

First game of 86/87 season, lost 2-1 to Swindon

Northampton Town; my dad wouldn't venture to a game for fear of hooliganism, so I tagged along with a mate and his dad, unbeknownst to my old man. he wasn't happy... years later I realised I had robbed him of the opportunity of taking his only son to his first ever football match. something I have to some extent regretted since, and I can never repay him...

 

 

on the flip side, he was a red so I am grateful he never bothered

 

we won 2-1 btw- my hero dave felgate... ten or so years later I was training with him as his (by some distance) understudy... not at axfords

3-0 win against Wolves, Battle of Burnden 1997 (10 years old)

 

Started following results during the Ricoh era thanks to an infant school visit from Andy Walker and have very clear memories of watching games on Granada from 93 onwards but with none of my family being Bolton fans I didn’t seem to have a sniff of going to a game.

 

For my 10th birthday we went to Burnden to get me the teal away shirt and we were playing at Palace at home...I was allowed to buy a programme but my parents took me home once we’d been to the shop, was proper gutted thinking I was going to the game as a surprise. As luck would have it, my godparents got burgled in the lead up to Christmas 1996 so my ‘replacement’ present was tickets to the Wolves game.

 

From the following season (first year at the Reebok), I had a season ticket with a lad from school and his family and that’s that - we still have our season tickets together even now, though the rest of his family gradually stopped coming over the years.

 

My lad (10) has had a season ticket for the last three years but isn’t particularly enthusiastic about things despite a promising start. I think that’s partly an influence from his mum who can’t stand football (can’t think why we didn’t stay together) but also because he didn’t have those years of waiting and waiting to be able to go to a game, and then the first game one that is still talked about now 21 years later.

That’s the game after Bolton fans went on the shed end , I was too young but anyone got memories of going on the Shed end that night?

Think my first game was tail end of 73/74 season but no idea who it was against.

Southend 1995 i think. Won 3-0 - Thompson, lee and mcateer goal scorers. 

 

dont remember anything about it but apparently i said i never want to go again because it was to noisy when we scored haha
