Not in Crawley Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 First gym session this evening. Seemed full of teenage lads who look bored. Suppose it beats hanging around on the street. Was ok - hope it sorts my knee out so I can go running again, got to build up its strength because I'm putting a lot of pressure on it when I run due to my gait. Quote

The leg extension machine is your friend, the squat is not. Run on the treadmill on the max-ish angle, the bounce of the belt protects. Running on the cobbles again = knee fucked again. Excersise bikes with a proper adjustment of the seat and on top resistance works. If you run like Joey Deacon injuries will follow and gait analysis is pseudoscience. I had shin splints but put that down to age and relative inactivity to 10k in three runs - stand-up wanks had retained my cardiovascular fitness, but my muscles had atrophied. Quote

Its called Intermittent Fasting - but in reality you are creating an “eating window” in which you consume your calories. Some folk do OMAD (one meal a day) and cram 2,000 calories into a one hour period. Not for me. “Breaking your fast” is quite important. The ideal way is to have something that is pure protein. Chicken breast. And then 30 mins later have something more substantial. The first thing to enter your body after your fast determines how your body processes stuff. Its yearning for the good stuff - so a burger, chips, bacon butty, etc, etc are all a no-no. Mixing the macro-nutrients is an absolute no-no. Pure protein. Shit loads of water all day. And during the fast nothing but water. Coffee is allowed. But no milk or sugar. Personally I don’t drink caffeine, to avoid being wired. Even hot lemon or peppermint tea are a no-no. And as said previous, if you can get that workout (mix of weights and cardio) into that last hour whilst your body is running on embers, it’ll singe those love handles nicely!! See Im burning calories from the off with working, so that's my workout at the end of period sorted. Gonna stretch the time and eat eggs first to break the fast. Nice one pal 👍 Quote

Read… Even though eggs are traditionally thought of as a protein, more than 60% of their calories come from fat, some of which is omega-3 fats, and only 30% protein. The white is mainly protein if I remember rightly, yolk is fats. I did all this experimentation with diets years ago, ketogenic, ultra low calorie (5 days only) 16:8 IF for a long-time. The ketogenic diet had me in ketosis, had these sticks you piss on to confirm so. After all that, came to the conclusion just eat a mix of protein fats and carbs at every meal where possible. Lots of veg. It's that simple. Omitting or adding things strictly works (expecting ripped abs) only for a minority of folk, with favourable genetics. Quote

To avoid the fatty yolk! Back in the full-on keto days. Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 There's more protein on a weight for weight basis in the yolks apparently- quite substantially too. Every day is a school day etc. Quote
Not in Crawley Posted February 7, 2022 Posted February 7, 2022 Had my health assessment today, not as bad as I'd thought. Bit overweight, need to lose a stone. Other than that heart is good, fat around other stuff is fine, lung capacity decent, need to watch blood sugars but not as bad as I thought they might be. Knee still fucked like but really enjoying doing spin/interval stuff and the non impact cardio. Have to say I much prefer the cardio to weights but have to do that for my leg. Just not for me doing weights, rather do a full hour of hard interval cardio and be fucked than lifting stuff up and down. Quote
MickyD Posted February 7, 2022 Posted February 7, 2022 Lung function test. What a joke. Blow into this tube to move the pointer. Like blowing into a toilet roll tube Quote

You should get on your exercise bike, NiC - at top resistance, adjust the seat so you don't over extend. And it may seem counter-intuitive but leg curls front and back will also bulk the muscles back up - even if it hurts (to be said in Mickey out of Rocky Voice) you've got to build up a scaffold or you'll get 5k in and pull up - like I did, and hobble to Lidl and buy a load of crap food then ring a taxi home, tail between legs. It's a fucker not being able to run, it's like having medication withdrawn. Think about using a treadmill, for us old fuckers it does take the strain off the knees, I see idiots running flat out on the flat on treadmills - it's pointless, you yourself know full well hill climbs are where it's at - max elevation and pretend you're Ivan Drago. Lay off road running until you're 100% reet. Edited February 8, 2022 by Youri McAnespie Quote

Lay off road running until you're 100% reet. Started that this week, doing intervals on a high resistance for 30 minutes. First time in 18 months I've had that running type buzz. Loved it, and it's bloody hard work. Stuck on a mix of early Metallica, bit of Machine Head, bit of Ministry, CoC and pummelled it. Knee felt better as well for doing it. Hopefully will be able to get back to some sort of normality soon! Quote

Just abstain from the cobbles for a bit, little by little - think early May for long city runs, perhaps. Let your knees recover. I had shin splints and tried to push past them, got about a mile and a bit many times before hobbling to a stop. Get a punchbag off Ebay - and chains, and mitts - stick your watch up and do however many two minute sets. Good way of keeping up aerobic shape in the grim winter. Quote

Smiley Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 Managed 6 weeks dry in 2022. Ended when we got to Fuerteventura and the All-Inc kicked in. Found myself eating desserts 3 times a day - plus some! Countered it with 2, 3, 5, 6 and 10 mile runs - the latter up to the top of Pico de la Zarza - grabbing 3,000ft of elevation in total. Also did 2 rebounder/trampoline classes and a Strength Nation class…. And finally aqua bikes in the pool. Think that’s where I tweaked my hamstring. Enjoyed an “active” holiday. Managed to get to physio on Monday, hamstring was definitely painful, as was my ongoing Achilles problem. But then during the night on Monday - boom! Worst pain ever in my left foot. Managed to get into the doctors same day and he’s 99% sure its gout. FFS! I’ve just over a week to go before the Anglesey half marathon and 5 weeks to the Manchester marathon. Not looking good. Quote
bolton_blondie Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Tried the work uniform on and it fits where it touches. So for tea instead of going for the lazy option I made chicken and spinach curry. Gonna get some big dog walks in this weekend too. Can no longer use the excuse of I've just had a baby. It was banging. Quote
Spider Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 3 weeks dry its wank Do not recommend it though I have lost weight. And I sleep better And I wake up quickly, more alert. But that’s as good as it gets. I miss beer. Sweet, darling, beer. Quote
