It’s really much much further advanced than folk on here are giving it credit for and the capabilities of electric vehicles are far more advanced than we appear to think.

You said above, that electric vans are soon to be available with a range of around 300 miles, that would do for me. Just have to look at the cost.

People's concerns over car distance and recharging could be alleviated by something along the lines I suggested. Swap a set of cells for another and pay for the charging by someone else.

Would also help reduce the need for loads of individual charging points everywhere.

It's already happening mate, at a rapid rate. Your simplistic ideas are nothing new.

Show me an example of one then.

Been searching, very few electric vans available at the moment, and only a couple big enough. One of which is huge: Renault starting at £57000+. I'll have 2!!

All require charging with a lead of some sort, with a range of charging times.

Hopefully, more manufacturers will bring them out, but the only one I can see that might be available soon is the e-vito by mercedes.

That's not going to be cheap neither.

Government is going to need to encourage manufacturers to allow payments over longer time frames to encourage shifting. Maybe grants with the cost offset by savings not treating folk with pollution related illnesses.

You need more complicated, newer, ideas

There's plenty of examples if you can be bothered to research it.

But lets just knock it on the head. Let's just keep burning diesel because people like you can't be arsed with it if it doesn't happen overnight.

My reluctance buying one now is that the ones that come out in 10 years or so are going to be much better in almost every capacity.

Bit like when mobile phones first came out - there was a massive leap forward with each iteration - which slows down quite a lot over time.

The electric cars being built now are like the brick style mobile phones. Give it a decade and they'll be cheaper, more accessible and we'll be wondering why everyone doesn't have one.

Dunno how big these batteries are, but having enough for every car ro have one, one on charge and one charged seems a massive number to have in circulation

Which is why its more likely we will need to have charging stations

Though, as traf suggested, what's wrong with charging on the go

The red lion in hawhshaw has a bank of chargers, labelled up tesla charging points

Does that mean they are exclusively for Tesla's

Would seem odd, if so

As I understand it yes, the Tesla ones are for them only. Or maybe it is free for them and charged to others, not sure.

There aren't suitable yet. Simple

Wish there were. There aren't

And back to my simple idea. There are none that work like that.

Try doing some research then put it on here so we can all get the benefit.

Oh, and as you work in the aerospace sector, (unless you've changed) I presume you're campaigning/working on bio jet fuel projects etc.

Or happy to continue with kerosene type stuff?

How many times do people have to be told these things don't happen overnight? Yes, there are hundreds of thousands of people working on it.

When I watch these spaced out cock ends crawling round the floor in front of traffic and gluing themselves to planes it just makes me want to set fire to a big barrel of hairspray.

They’re no different to the pillocks raving in the street in 2001 and the other lot smashing McDonald’s windows at G8 summits.

Just another thing to get fucked up and riot about.

They’re spoiling the issue imo and making it worse.

I know how bad climate change is because David Attenborough told me on a documentary, not because some smelly turd with dreadlocks performed swan lake outside an airport smashed off his tits on space cakes.

I'll just leave this here:

Ahh the infamous Youtuber who puts the word truth in his title. Truth about this, truth about that. Fuck he must be right then? I might have been able to give him a shred of respect had he gone for "my opinion of Extinction Rebellion". What a tosser. The grim thing about all this is we now live in a world where for many, unqualified, egotistic youtube vloggers and manipulated facebook walls are their only source of 'news'. We really are fucked.

You could pick apart the whole thing but there is one thing he does that demonstrates his bird-sized brain. When he comments on the father of two emotionally saying he is doing this for his kids, the guy says... " I wonder what his children think watching their father literally crying about the weather". Anyone who compares the collapse of our ecosystems and climate breakdown to "the weather" should be sent to the west coast of Scotland to plant trees for the winter in a pair of hemp underpants.

If anyone on here has actually watched that and fallen for it, then they need to stick their head in a bath with a plugged in hairdryer. Then return to the thread with a fresh perspective.

Hairdryers produce 25kg co2 per year apparently.

Ban the cunts.

I think you should set fire to a big barrel of hairspray and blame XR :)

IMO the folk on the streets are completely different from those smashing Maccy Ds at G8 summits. They're not anarchists, they're not rioting, they're not wearing masks and not smashing shit up for starters. You only need to delve behind the daily mail headlines, very selective photo's and youtube vloggers to see that the majority of folk on the streets are perfectly normal people who've taken time off from work or education to be there. The idea that this issue is another thing to get fucked up and riot about couldn't be further from the truth. Of course there are your usual hippy types there as well but if you look at some of the statements from 'anarchist' groups online, you will find that they don't generally agree with XR. That's why they've grown so much as movement because they aren't made up of your usual types. For every photo you show me of a dreadlocked hippy dancing, I could show you ten of a farmer ,a doctor, a nurse or a teacher.

Love or hate XR (I'm somewhere in the middle) there is no doubting for me that they have pushed the climate crisis up the political agenda. Most importantly, they have raised awareness that governments are drastically failing its citizens. That's not to say it has all been them. Youth climate strikes and David Attenbrough have played their part as well.

I'm not saying your not alienated by them and I think that's shame. Of course they alienate plenty of people. But they are mobilising more than they are alienating. A poll after the April Rebellion showed that for the majority of the population, the climate crisis was the number one issue. No doubt helped by people like Greta and Attenborough.
