It's not savings as such, but at work we had a new starter who worked for an airline and had been placed on long-term furlough. After he started working with us, he was getting 80% of his wage from his job at the airline and 100% of his wage for his full-time job with us.

I didn't think that was allowed?

Yep absolutely allowed. Bonkers and taking the piss if you ask me but thats the rules

I’m sure it was, in fact I think it was encouraged

It was allowed, I think only of your employer allowed it though. I know two people who were furloughed who then we've working at Asda. They're both back full time at their original jobs now.

Made sense for a few weeks

But if its still going on now, crazy

What about working for another employer whilst furloughed?

The Government has previously confirmed that an employee who has been furloughed from their current job can take on a new job, provided this is permitted by their contract of employment. For example, certain contracts of employment will provide that an employee must not work for another employer during the course of their employment with the organisation during working hours or without prior written consent. If this is the case, we would recommend that parties agree a variation to the terms of the contract in writing on a temporary basis or that the employer provides that written consent, specifying that this only applies in relation to any period of furlough whilst the coronavirus pandemic is on-going.

It is worth noting that there is no obligation on an employer to permit an employee to work for another employer whilst furloughed if this is prohibited by the contract of employment, although the employee would have a valid argument that any alternative work would not be interfering with their work for the furloughed employer, as no such work is required.

Not that bonkers, as they'll be paying lots of tax

Hence what I said earlier? About a big MAD MAX bill coming if isn’t already being hammered?

but my own issue is why should someone have the ability to earn more than someone who remained working throughout? Stinks if you ask me?

Yes. But he will have been hammered for tax on the job with you depending on what he earned at the airline of course.

If he hasn’t it’s by error and he’s got a fucker of a tax bill waiting for him when they get to him.

Least worst option, I suppose

Bit like receiving a pension and still working?

The number of vulnerable people who exist in the UK is scandalous.

How is it least worst option?

for me people should have been encouraged to go and work for supermarkets and other key sectors that needed additional man power absolutely. Anything else shouldn’t have been allowed other than to make up your wage to the same level as it was pre furlough. But I’m a capitalist pig after all. I just don’t like others having opportunities to earn more money that I’m not afforded

Bit of info for anybody interested

Daughter has asthma

Its not bad but she has a blue and brown inhaler

Shes in group 6

Im in 8 of 9

No piss taking I’m genuinely interested and surprised, I didn’t know this at all. Anything to do with being a teacher as well?

I’m the same (moderate asthma controlled with brown and blue inhalers) as are 2 of the kids. Does this apply to me? All of us? Does it count if you’ve been positive?

Probably makes sense to have a chat with doctors doesn’t it

Finally being fitted for a FFP3 mask tomorrow. Only took them 12 months 👍

Cases in Bolton up 8% now. Something going on and council are investigating. Horwich and Doffcocker accounting for most of the new cases.

Nothing to do with her job, i dont think

Shes in the same group as my 49 year old copper mate who is also athsmatic

I dont think having had covid it precludes you getting a jab, so i would expect you to get a call sooner than you thought

Which is why i shared it  :)
