That was one of the loveliest things to ever happen. Stood in my garden sobbing like a baby! Proud to work for the NHS 👏👏👏👏❤️

How’s things at Bolton?

Sorry Spider - I missed this last night. The hospital is still quieter than it's ever been. But those that are sick are very sick. And there are a lot of them.

Let's just get real for a minute.
The NHS failed to order enough gowns for their staff fast enough.
The Govt had to step in to try & assist, enlisting the Army.
The NHS had failed so badly that even this wasn't enough.
But it's the NHS who get clapped, the Govt cursed?... x

I doubt people are considering the upper management when they are clapping

I only applaud the bureaucracy.

Explains why I never exercise.

If you're a true fan then every so often you treat yourself to some toasted malt loaf, it's another level.

Testing capacity at 38,000

Tests yesterday; 18,665

NHS staff not taking up tests

Can anybody shed any light as to why?

It isn't up to the stock controller at Townleys to be watching Sky news and thinking they should order more gowns because there's a new epidemic in China. The govt should be advising the NHS on those things. The problem has been that the govt didn't start taking it seriously until mid March and by then it was too late to order enough gowns to avoid a shortage

One of my lot has got to pay the balance for his holiday this week, is the current advice to just pay it and then get it back later when/if it's cancelled ?

On a more speculative note, I'm supposed to be going to Cornwall start of August and haven't looked at cancelling yet. Anyone else supposed to be going away in this country and thinking it might actually happen and be worth going ?

You may face the wrath of the Cornish militia.

I've got a UK holiday in August booked, I'm not cancelling yet, no chance, it's giving me something to aim for.

Kernow Liberation Front have rigged Tamar Bridge with high explosive in case Tarquin and Gemima try and reach their holiday cottage.

He makes some valid points, I've said before I think the reason we locked down late was because our decision making process is slow - I think they wanted the coronavirus bill passed so they could enforce lockdown,.

I think they were scared that lockdown wouldn't work if they did it too early without enforcement.

The bill was read on the 19th March,  but the action plan was released to the public on 3rd March,  it took until 25th March to pass it - too long.

Turkish delight is just soap rolled about in talc.

Bit surprised @peelyfeetposted this.

I'm glad he survived, and he writes well about the illness, but I'll not be looking there for impartial insight.

Yeah, maybe he's got some political bias - I've been arguing with numpties on the conservative woman for a couple of weeks so perhaps it's clouded my judgement

Here's their take on it for balance

Lockdown was implemented in the afternoon of the same day that the bill passed through house of commons, basically as soon as they knew there were no objections to it

Which was always going to be the case. Personally i thought we implemented lockdown at the right time, 1 week earlier like some are saying wouldn't have had any less or more of an impact, but i am no expert, im just going off the disruption at the time regarding schools and business and that the Govt where looking to how close Easter was feasible.

Well, theres evidence that shows several countries that locked down earlier into the extent of their community spread are relaxing restrictions at an earlier stage than we will, with dramatically less deaths. Whether this will be wise in the long term is yet to be seen. It's going to be a long game this, so we'll have to see how it pans out.
