It's 1.1 million tests every 2 weeks. It could be done - but the logistics and the money it would cost would be eye watering. And then you'd have to have to have the lab capacity to cope.

I just don't think the need is there currently. Might have been worthwhile a few months ago - or if numbers start to ramp up again. But right now we need to be focussing on the patients who've had no treatment for the past 3 months. This would get in the way.

Anyway - just my three penneth!

I trust your judgement in these matters

Focussing, or focusing?

the idea of lockdown was to protect the NHS and stop it getting overloaded. We could fly back up to 500 deaths a day and it still wouldn’t get overloaded.

I'm not so sure about that. The NHS held up at the peak and I suppose you could argue the Nightingale hospitals showed there was still capacity, of some sort, available. That however was only by an enormous reshuffling of entire hospitals, using non ICU staff, postponing vital non Covid medical procedures and diagnostics etc.

We also asked some of the staff to work long hours in very challenging conditions. Work which over time takes its toll on people and which may make them prone to sickness themselves, not neccesarily covid though obviously that's a consideration.

If there's 500 dying each day, there's a much larger number hospitalised and a lot of survivors (hopefully) that will be needing ongoing care. I appreciate we need to get back on the horse, but I'd be cautious about just how much load we can put on the finite resources of the NHS indefinitely and expect it to bear up.  Especially as we move into flu season.

The bit about the staff is bang on. I imagine we'll see a lot of burnout and maybe PTSD in critical care staff.

They've been flogged for the past couple of months.

We'd respond a lot better to the next wave though. The infrastructure is in place. Everyone knows what to do and there would be far less confusion about what PPE staff need etc.

Labour don't have access to the data that the government do, so if they're trying to put a policy in to law, it would have to follow the science and situation.

Perhaps without the necessary information, the policy would have been ineffective, cumbersome and costly.

As detailed by Kent.

Nowt there to explain why hunt thought it good to write an article saying it was a good idea and then voted against it

How do you enforce it

anyone who challenges will get blasted with abuse

Convey the merits of your argument via the power and majesty of modern dance. Note you should practise this in advance, not many can improvise in the heat of the moment and still get the message across.

If you have a problem - if no one else can help - and if you can find them- maybe you can hire the footy lads😀

Perhaps reading the motion might enlighten you.

It was described as too vague or something similar.

Moreover Hunt is like a dog with a bone on health matters, asking plenty of pointed questions, so if he doesn't agree with with the motion then that's fine.

I refer to Kent's post earlier; having the capacity doesn't mean it has to be used, if it's not deemed necessary.

Went to the park for a walk with the kids earlier. Wandered over to the field to kick a ball around and across the other side of the field 4 or 5 women had set up three tables full of party bags. It was a football themed party and they’d also bought some large inflatable footballs and laid out some cones for the kids to play in.

I overheard one say to a child who was with them “yes, there will be lots of children here soon to celebrate with the birthday boys. Then we can get the sweets out and the sports can begin”.

I counted about 20 party bags. Add the parents and any siblings and there’d have been over 50 people there having birthday celebrations.

Back to normal.
