Discussing pubs the other day. Which is safer, a massive wetherspoons with loads of room for distancing but full of idiots, or a small proper boozer with less room for distancing but people with functioning brains inside who may actually try and apply the rules as best they can?

that they are 10k higher?

looking at this from today's mirror:
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/breaking-uk-coronavirus-deaths-10000-22388896

because of uncertainty on suspected deaths etc, really, for any country (that records all deaths), the most accurate way to see how things are going is excess deaths - at least that way you get the truer picture of the impact

and if it's been around ages, from what date do you even start to look at excess deaths?

Deaths in UK hospitals so far: 33,781

(This total is based on individual figures announced daily by each UK nation)

Deaths across all settings: 45,312

(This is the UK Government's official toll which counts all people who have had a positive test result confirmed by a Public Health or NHS lab in the UK)

Deaths registered so far: 51,096

(This is the number of registered deaths in England and Wales where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, including suspected cases)

Deaths in all settings: 56,127

(This is the number of registered deaths in each UK nation where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, including suspected cases, plus more recent hospital deaths)

Excess deaths since March 21: 65,094

(The number of deaths in the UK above the average amount, but not necessarily caused by Covid-19)

Big pay rises for Doctors, Police Officers & Teachers announced by the Government today.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/pay-rises-for-doctors-police-and-more-in-the-public-sector

From a mate if mine today who's an anaesthesiologist.

"This :pay reward for COVID' is yet more Government spin, aimed at impressing the voter while dividing NHS staff against each other. It is nothing to do with COVID, and it’s nothing to do with rewarding doctors and not nurses, paramedics, and the rest of the NHS team

Literally all they’ve done is accept the DDRB’s recommendation for pay (vs inflation) for non-training doctors and dentists. This is how doctors’ and dentists’ pay is decided every year, except usually the DDRB’s recommendations are ignored.

Trainees (most doctors that you’ll come into contact with) and AfC staff are locked into the same payrise and increment structure that we voted* for last time they were up for negotiation.

Some voted for, a similar but slightly smaller number voted against, and many couldn’t be bothered to vote."

“Mentioned on the death certificate” is now the true measure of those that HAVE died of covid correct? Just so I’m sure. This is what we are now saying and it’s the correct way of measuring this?

Looks like the UK's voting system is intact, nothing to report.

Just outraged that nobody wanted to know if there was any interference, so again nothing to report.

Boris in ‘Boris is a lying cunt’ shocker

Nurses haven't done that well, it was very clever how they released the last pay rise but in real terms nurses pay is still down on 2010, I think it was 3.2% when I looked but happy to be corrected on that.

An absolute must listen 😂😂 I think not

Maybe now their pay is sorted they can start treating patients again that would be ideal right about now 👍🏼

dunno, bit flaky isn't it - it's up to you though if you want to deem it correct

as said, for me the only real way to assess the impact is look at excess deaths, because this is the "best" benchmark as we know that the vast majority of people that have died this year who may not have done otherwise are either due to having caught covid, or, because of covid (i.e. not receiving treatment for something else)

Agreed, and I shan't be listening. The fact the author of the tweet follows over 7000 people is enough to tell me he's a massive attention seeking bellend

I think most of these folk on either side of the divide are exactly as you describe. Yet certain folk seem to hang off their every word and follow them on social media And claim to be intelligent members of society. Baffling

Teaching unions are unhappy that their recommended 7% pay rise has been ignored...

I'm over the moon at 3.1% .. That on top of a potential rise in my pay scale means a 4K rise..

Just another example of a rag trying to gain clicks for me. We will never ever know the true human cost of this pandemic. But I will go as far as to say I believe we are much closer to the true number than many of our “developed” counterparts.

but if it helps get people mildly erect thinking the government have been hiding deaths under the floorboards then so be it.

SEVEN PERCENT????

Sorry, but that’s fucking crackers.

Pleased for you though with the more sensible payrise that’s been awarded.
